Installing XBMC without administrator - can't install Direct X
#1
Hi, I'm trying to install XBMC on my work laptop running XP. I don't have administrator status and won't be granted it.

The trouble I have is that as I don't have administrator rights I can't install Direct X during the setup. When I try to run Xbmc I get the error message:
"The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem"

I tried using the OpenGL build but that still requires Direct X to be installed. Is there any way round this problem or is it just not possible to install Xbmc without administrator rights.

Thanks for any help.

XBMC can be installed without admin rights, though you would have to choose a directory that you have write access to. However I suspect you can't install DirectX without admin access. Could you ask your IT guys to put the DirectX redistributable on your laptop. It's an official Microsoft download from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...ceb6d8fa8d
