Adding TV Series

Thanks steelman1991. 'Movies 4' is a EXTERNAL USB DRIVE. What I read you saying is that 'TV Show 2' folder should be it's own separate DRIVE? Wouldn't the example steppedup gave in their last post be on the same F drive and be written out for TV Shows: F\TV_Shows\Canada's Next Prime Minister (2010) & for Movies: F\Movies\Blade (2000)? Which would be the same as mine for TV Shows: Movies 4/TV Shows/Big Love/Season 1 & Movies: Movies 4/Movies 4 Folder\. How about instead of calling the drive Movies 4 I called it Media? Are things unclear because I have a USB drive called Movies 4? Or am I really totally ignorant on this :confused2:? I want to make sure I have this fundamental folder & file naming and placement in order before I go on to any other trouble shooting procedures.

No doesn't need to be its own drive, merely its own folder at the same level as the movies folder - if one exists.

The name of the drive is normally unimportant, though in this case a lack of drive letter has certainly confused the issue - not used to seeing drives (external or internal) named in that fashion and presumed that this was a folder below the root drive as opposed to an actual drive.

Right what we need now is to move to a debug log - can't believe we've gone this far without one.

Yeah, I didn't want to move on without being assured that the folder/file structure was correct. I'd like to attach a Debug Log, but it seems I might have a bad copy of XBMC, because I'm not given the option of "Add Ons" in the "Change Your Settings" page. Per the video on "Change Your Settings" the option of "Add Ons" should be between "Weather" & "Network". On the "Appearance Setting" page when I hi-lite "Skin" the choice says "(1/2) Confluence", not simply "Confluence" per what the video shows. I've attached a link to image shack with a couple of screenshots of the options I'm given on these 2 pages. http://img407.imageshack.us/g/2confluence.png/

Easy enough to set it manually and upload it manually...

Remove the root folder from XBMC.

XBMC - click on System/ System/ Debugging/ Enable Debugging.

Close XBMC, Open XBMC, do whatever you want to troubleshoot - add in the root folder.

Open up the library and Update library.

Close XBMC.

C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\xbmc.log - to pastebin.

Cheeers!

Thanks again, steppedup, yours and all others who have replied, insightfulness is much appreciated & helpful. Now this is something I'm ignorant of Huh, in respect to "removing the root folder from XBMC". Here's a screenshot of the XBMC folder in the Library folder on internal Macintosh HD: http://img97.imageshack.us/g/userlibrary...eensh.png/. I don't know if you've noticed in previous screenshots I've submitted, that I do have "Debugging" enabled. Once I enabled it, readings appeared on screen with CPU use etc. Yet, unlike the excellent example given in the YouTube video, of how to post the log, I can only get to the step where the debug log is enabled (see my last post & it's included screenshots), but not to the step where you go back to "Change Your Settings" & choose "Add-Ons" (because the "Add Ons" option does not appear on the screen as an option) & then the "Install XBMC Debut Log Add On", etc. I think it would help me if anyone is able to instruct me on how to get this "Add Ons" option to appear in "Change Your Settings", so I can follow the very good video that's been supplied. FYI: I believe the version of XBMC I have is 9.11 r26018.

Download and move to Dharma 10.0 - 9.11 is an old version - this may well be part of your problem.

steelman1991, steppedup & everyone else who has contributed to this thread - Thank you very much for your advice to date. I removed old copy of XBMC & installed Dharma. This gave me the missing "Add Ons" & "Install Debug Log" option! I followed, to the 'T' these instructions given earlier in the thread provided by stepped up:

"Switch to the confluence skin (default skin), enable debugging, and enable the debug addon so you can upload your log so we can see what's going on.

Here's how to do that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSfe1HMJO0o

Quick note - please follow that video. But do a couple of other things.

Afterwards, shut down XBMC and restart it (clears out the XBMC log).

Then, go to the TV Shows library, and turn off the library, and then right-click on the TV show and edit source.

Hit ok on the pop-up. On the upper-left make sure the tvdb is selected. Lower right, Run automated scan.

Hit ok (assuming you have multiple tv shows in that root folder.

Turn the library back on.

If still no tv shows, then use the XBMC Debug log to upload the log and paste the link back here."
____________

Here are screenshots of what BIG LOVE looks like in XBMC after following the instructions: http://img257.imageshack.us/g/picture2ii.png/. Notice the first shot shows I get the overview of the whole series, but I click on BIG LOVE to the right of the screen & the second screenshot does not show the Season 1 folder with the episodes in it. I've renamed the 'Movies 4' drive to 'M' to prevent the earlier confusion of having a drive named 'Movies 4' with the 'Movies 4 Folder' in it. Maybe I should of named it 'C', instead of 'M'. Oh, well.

Here is the log after doing the above: http://pastebin.com/fxWMRHS6.

What can I do next to get the episode info?

Firstly you will need to carry out a scrape, while in debug mode. In file mode - TV Shows folder - open context menu - scan for new content, then pastebin link to log from here, as previously.

The present log shows no scraping of any kind.

Did you follow these steps
Quote:Afterwards, shut down XBMC and restart it (clears out the XBMC log).

- because your log file indicates that you didn't - no scraping activity at all in the debug log.

O.K. I re-did things exactly as before. Followed the procedures to the 'T'. Here are screenshots of the steps I took: http://img545.imageshack.us/g/5afterselectinggenre.png/.

Here is the log (I had to go back into XBMC & retrieve the log because after I ran a debug log for this 2nd try & when I went to pastebin.com it said the log had been deleted or timed out so that's way the log begins with xbmc.old.log) http://pastebin.com/eRnrwzPh

I did things a third time because the times on the log I posted in my last post didn't seem to correspond with when I did the edit source/tvdb/auto scan/etc. on my 2nd try (the times should of been around 12:53 - 12:58, but the log I posted had times around 13:15 etc.). Here's the log for this third try: http://pastebin.com/MBRtvHrW.

Thanks, all.

It's not scraping... did you follow my posts about the advancedsettings.xml?

sidewalksuper - Thanks, I completely forgot about that advice, because in previous version of XBMC I didn't have a user data folder &/or addon_data folder in the XBMC folder. Would I just hi-lite the code you provided & drag it to the add_ondata folder? That's how I got this result in the user library folder: http://img141.imageshack.us/g/userdata.png/.

steelman1991, many pardons, but I didn't notice info you supplied at beginning of your last post.

I just did this & this is the log: http://pastebin.com/eujfCdwy. It looks to me that it did something around 17:47:20. Am I to close out of XBMC & follow the previous advice again? e.g.
"Afterwards, shut down XBMC and restart it (clears out the XBMC log).

Then, go to the TV Shows library, and turn off the library, and then right-click on the TV show and edit source.

Hit ok on the pop-up. On the upper-left make sure the tvdb is selected. Lower right, Run automated scan.

I did this & still have same results as previously posted.

Volumes/M/TV Shows 2/BIG LOVE/Season 1/BIG LOVE - S01E01-E02.dvdmedia/VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.IFO

so the file itself is video_ts.ifo,right?

Try this:
TV Shows 2 <---folder
Big Love <---folder
Season 1 <---folder
Big Love - S01E01-E02.ifo <----the file

Just creating the advancedsettings.xml with my advice should suffice Smile
I'd choose that over renaming your disc structure

Read these 2 to figure out how to create it, it's basically a txt file (renamed to xml) on the location given in my post, with the code given in my post.
