is it possible to play an audio file through the http api (ExecBuiltin) without changing the current playlist? When a video is played, the audio file should be played in the background. When using PlayMedia, the video is interrupted...

There's no way to have both Audio player and Video player working at the same time.
Only Image player can have Audio Player in the background. Yatse 2 : Media Center Remote Control for Touch Screens Yatse, the Xbmc Remote and Widgets for Android |

too bad actually,
this would be perfect functionality for party mode (play music and silent video) Someone should add this as a feature request

Yes, would be a great feature. On the weekend I had exactly this situations. I solved it by using another device for audio on my av receiver. But a native xbmc solution would be perfect.
