Install Error: CApplication::Create()Check lof file and that it is writable
#1
I do not receive the error when the XBMC-10.0 is installing ... but when the program tries to open I receive:

CApplication::Create()Check lof file and that it is writable (in what I think is a windows error box)

I'm running Windows XP Professional SP3 on an old Sony Vaio Laptop

The graphics is an Intel 815EM and I have installed the correct driver (and most current from the Intel support website)

The other posts seem to say that the correct video drivers need be installed to deal with this issue - I thought I had done that ..... I do not know where the log would be to upload it ... but if directed I would be happy to do so.....

I would really like to get this working ...... any guidance would be greatly appreciated......

thanks..... Bobo:

Please post the log file on pastebin.com for us to have a look at. You can open the log by pressing Windows-R and in the Run dialog type:

notepad %appdata%\xbmc\xbmc.log

and click OK.

Thank you.

I'm still having problems finding that log file.

The program is installed in program files\xbmc but there is no log file

Additionally, no Application Data directories have been created in My Documents or anywhere else. I did a SEARCH for xbmc.log and nothing was found?

APPDATA is an environment variable that contains the location of your profile folder. On Win XP it will be something like "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data" where <username> is you Windows username. If you press Windows-R to open the Run dialog (or click Start then Run) and type in:

%appdata%\XBMC

it will open the folder where your log file is, or you can open the log file directly in Notepad by using the Run command I posted above.

Well the error is that XBMC doesn't like the video card. You could try changing the colour depth to 32 bit. Also download and run the latest Microsoft DirectX installer from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...ceb6d8fa8d

I have tried making those suggested changes.... I do not seem to have an n option to change to 32 bit color but I did change it from the True Color it was set to.

I ran the DX installation you indicated ...... I'm having no luck......

Any other ideas to make it like the video card?

Some information about the Video Card:

It is an Intel 82815 graphics card - 815EM chipset .... I have installed the most updated drivers I could locate - I obtained them from the Intel support website.

Thanks again ..... Bobo

I have double checked all the drivers and all seem to indicate that the most current driver is installed and working properly.

The graphics option do not provide a 32 bit choice. The available choice are 24 and 16 Bit. I have tried them both in High Color and True Color.

Any further suggestions to get XBMC to function would be greatly appreciated.

FYI - I have tried running some video files with VLC (1.1.7) and it had no problem playing....

I would really love to get XBMC to work on this machine........
