HOW-TO Play Live TV/Internet Video in XBMC (including some sample streams!)
Hi everybody,

I'm trying to get the live streaming on XBMC from this link: http://www.one.com.mt/index.php?id=1928

I'm using wireshark to find the rtmp handshake packet and I was able to extract the following information:

rtmp://178.32.140.240/skyline3
app=skyline3
swfUrl=http://cdn.skylinewebcams.com/player/skylinewebcams.swf
pageURL=http://www.skylinewebcams.com//web-tv/malta/one.html?w=253

So I ended up with the following line to add to xbmc:

rtmp://178.32.140.240/skyline3 app=skyline3 swfUrl=http://cdn.skylinewebcams.com/player/skylinewebcams.swf pageURL=http://www.skylinewebcams.com//web-tv/malta/one.html?w=253

The above is not working. I noticed that in other examples people use: playpath=... and live=true

I've tried different combinations but couldn't figure out the exact line, can anybody help me figure out what i'm doing wrong ?

P.S I'm using the LiveStreams addon to view this stream (Although it shouldn't make any difference)

Hi there! Someone can help convert this stream: rtmp://212.243.210.71:1935/live?_fcs_vhost=cp49989.live.edgefcs.net/streamRM1@2564

Is Skytg24 - Italian.

Hi,

Newbie here... working on trying to setup my XBMC box working as the family requires Smile
Anyway i got everything setup correctly just need one more stream but i couldn't seem to figure out how to add it. I also don't see a browser on XBMC that i can add to simply play the stream off it. It's a live broadcast of our church (Centre Street Church) every Saturday and Sunday.
Here is the link http://csc.churchonline.org/

If at all possible, the church site also has a repository of previous sermons that we would love to have access to using xbmc. here is the link for those http://www.cschurch.ca/resources/sermons/

These are church properties but is shared to the public so no piracy here. Most important is the live stream. I already have livestream add-on installed.

Thank you so much.
I have several similar streams I want to add to XBMC. I'm hoping that someone will do the first one for me so I can see how it's done, and then I will be able to do the others myself.
Unless I've missed something as I read through this thread, there are excellent instructions on how to convert the link/code data to a stream. But I have not found any info on how to actually find that data.

So, if someone could either explain where I find this information, or perhaps code https://www.v8supercars.com.au/v8superview into a stream so I can view it in XBMC I would greatly appreciate it.
I am far from a computer noob. My computer history goes back to the late 70s and the very first IBM's.
HOWEVER -- Trying to stream video from the internet to xbmc - whether it be live sports, pron or anything else - has proven to be the single most frustrating exercise in futility I have ever had the misfortune to be engaged in!
This, and all the other forums, I have searched all assume a level of knowledge that the average person new to htpc's and to xbmc in particular simply does not have. And I have not found anything approaching an explanation any where.

What was my HTPC is now simply another windows computer connected to my tv and I am now watching my locally stored videos in media player, and watching my streams in internet explorer.

I hope that some day somebody from the XBMC community will write a streaming guide in PLAIN ENGLISH.
Simply telling me to put my rtmp data into a .strm file is not a plain english guide.
It may as well be written in ancient runes.

What is the difference between a strm file and a playlist?
WTF is rtmp data and where do I find it?
And when I have my .strm file what do I do with it?
What does "make sure you are not in library mode" mean?
How do I check?
If I am in "library mode", how do I get out of it?
And once I've figured all that out, how do I play my .strm?
Is there a different way of doing things if my videos are pre-recorded and stored on a site (eg YouTube-style) vs a live stream (eg live sports)?
Library mode or not library mode are explained in the wiki, and is a fundamental part of using xbmc.

No matter how much documentation is out there, people just never seem to read it.

Interesting that a search of the wiki for "library mode" produced 10 pages of results - NONE of which answered my question.
A similar search for "strm files" produced the same result - pages of results that once again failed to answer my questions.

It seems that no matter how much documentation is out there, decent search engines are still hard to find!

Of course a truly helpful reply would have contained a link to the relevant wiki page, but perhaps it got lost in the sarcasm.
When you look at a list of items to play you are either in files mode or in library mode. If you entered via clicking on "files" you are in files mode. If you go via "movies" or "tv shows" you are in library mode.

Thank you for that info. Now I understand that part of the process.

Having now re-read the wiki multiple times the whole streaming thing still makes no sense whatsoever.
Is this perhaps one of those times when you need to know the answer in order to know the correct keyword to search for?
Or am I simply reading and not comprehending?
The wiki pages I am reading seem to tell me a lot about what I can do, but very little about how to actually do it.

In essence, I have a paid subscription to a browser-based streaming service and I want to add it to my XBMC.
The service is not included in any of the sports add-ons I can find.
I thought it would be a relatively simple process to add it as a source.

Am I having so much trouble finding the correct info because the first stream of the year is not till next weekend, and therefore the feed is not yet active?

I am now going in search of someone who can translate from Wiki to Dumbass Huh
How about a concrete example of what you are trying to connect to?

OOPS! Sorry. My bad. I thought I already had the link in.

It is pretty much the only local sport I watch
