HOW-TO Play Live TV/Internet Video in XBMC (including some sample streams!)
Hello Everyone,

I am a newbie for XML. I try to create new xml file for streaming for my parent. I read a lot and try to create xml by myself. I have used URLSnooper and URL helper but I can't find rtmp for this site. Can someone write the code for me or help me find RTMP for this link. I am really appreciated.

I tried finding the URL and creating .strm file but nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Hi all, I am a real 74 year old newbie to XBMC. I am running XMBCbuntu 13 and it works great to view all my movies on the NAS server. However, I have been trying for three days now to stream a live feed with no success. Of course I can exit XBMC to Ubuntu, load Firefox, and view the stream from there, but I would prefer to just stay in XBMC.
The URL I am trying to stream is:

I have made a strm file with that link--does not work.

If anyone can help before I reach 75 I would appreciate it. I believe once I see it I will understand. Retired engineer with many years of C/C++. Now learning Python and XML.

Thanks to all and especially the staff of XBMC, great job--actually amazing!!

Thank you Mr. Bolainas--I used the URL link above and it worked great. Now I have to figure out how to do the same on my own. I am assuming you used some kind of URL sniffer to derive the URL. Anyway thank you--I can now watch GETV via XBMC.
No problem lejanssen i first used URL Helper to get the link but it gave me a F4M link and i didn't know how to play that in XBMC so instead i searched in the code of the webpage and i found the m3u8 compatible link there. Some pages that use f4m or f4f use something like this http://getvhdflash-f.akamaihd.net/z/GETV...er-3.2.0.1 but the playable link would be this one http://getvhdflash-f.akamaihd.net/i/GETV...aster.m3u8.
I'm a n00b trying to create a working .strm file for the KTVU live news feed at http://www.ktvu.com/videos/news/ktvu-live-news/vtSfR/

Using wireshark I've extracted what I believe is the source address:

http://brightcove03-f.akamaihd.net/KTVU_...DFXLPSFLXR

Using VLC I verified I could supply that address to "Open Network Stream" and see the video in VLC.

But my goal is to watch using my RaspPi running RaspBMC so I placed the above source address in a file named ktvu.strm on the RaspPi.

But when I open this ktvu.strm file using XBMC I see the initial few frames and then the video freezes. I've tried this on two different setups. The first is the latest RaspBMC and the second is XBMC 12.3 on 64-bit Win 7.

Some web searching revealed a few other (older?) references to KTVU_NEWSCAST_800 so I tried those as well, also without success.

I figure there must be something stupid I'm not doing, so I'm hoping someone can rent me a clue!

Thanks!

I think I got it but need some help understanding.

rtmp://feed.zapcommunication.netdna-cdn.com/live/47175/live003 <--- this link works as a n/w stream in VLC and as an strm/m3u file in XBMC.

why and when do we have to use a URL in this format [rtmp://feed.zapcommunication.netdna-cdn.com/live/47175 playpath=live003 swfUrl="http://releases.flowplayer.org/swf/flowplayer-3.2.7.swf" pageURL="http://www.uecf.net/bibletv.htm" swfVfy=true live=true]?
Certainly not the XBMC wiki if you want to include navix and/or mashup.

so do you have any suggestion? I would surely like to include all possible addons/methods, at least for information purpose.

Any other high traffic site you can suggest?
Ask where you got them from. It wasn't from the XBMC Foundation or any of its sites which end in xbmc.org.
