Sony VGN-FW12G Laptop as HTPC
#1
Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone can help. I have a Sony VGN-FW12G laptop which has a HDMI Port. Looking at the specs I'm wondering if it can handle 1080p output direct to a Denon amp and onto the TV.

The specs are as follows:

Processor Name Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26 GHz)*1*2
Chipset Mobile Intel® PM45 Express Chipset
Processor System Bus 1066 MHz
Memory Bus 800 MHz
Cache Memory 3 MB

RAM 4 GB DDR2 SDRAM

Graphics Accelerator ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3470
Dedicated Video Memory 128 MB

HDMI In/Out Connector Output x 1 (I can't work out if the HDMI is 1.1,.2, or ).3

Sound Chip Intel® High Definition Audio compatible , 3D audio (Direct Sound 3D support)

I'm guessing throwing on XBMC Live onto a thubdrive would get my answers but I believe there is an issue with the Linux XBMC and ATI video cards.

If anyone can identify any component that will make it a no-go, then that's fine, I'll see what I can scrape up and build a dedicated HTPC. Ideally the only connection needed would be the HDMI and that's it.
