Music Videos
#1
Hi all.
I'm pretty new to XBMC but have got most things running pretty well.
I'm trying to add music videos but not having much luck. I go to the video>files menu, add source (folder on my external hdd named music videos, containing just one folder in it at the minute with an avi file in it), then set content to music videos.
I then go to the music menu and the music videos folder is not listed, either in files or library mode.
I know I must be missing something really simple but it's driving me mad!!

Using Dharma installed on W7, Confluence skin
Thanks for any help

Sorry if i've not provided enough information or if this question has been asked a thousand times, I have been through the search and the wiki, followed the instructions, but cant get music videos to show up in any of the libraries.
Just a pointer in the right direction would be a start thanks.

Ok, so it seems to be something to do with the scraper not recognising the file. If I change it to a different video by the same artist using the scraper, then i'm able to access it in the video and music libraries under music videos.
I've checked and there is an nfo file in the folder so not sure why it wouldnt be picked up, is it because its not on the scrapers database?
FYI the file is Take That - The Circus Live DVD (dont laugh, it's the wifes!)
Sorry again if i'm wide of the mark here, still got a lot to learn.

Ha! I just tested it here (I don't normally use the library) and the only music videos on my PC are Taylor Swift - Fifteen and Girls Aloud - Biology. I suspect the hand of my niece in this! Maybe I'll download a few Slipknot videos.

Anyhow, I found only the Taylor Swift video appeared in the library. When I looked in the debug log I found:

Code:
DEBUG: VideoInfoScanner: No NFO file found. Using title search for 'D:\XBMC\Video\Music Videos\Girls Aloud - Biology.mp4'

So the scraper didn't find anything. When I put the URL http://api.mtvnservices.com/1/video/sear...%20biology into Internet Explorer I get some odd page that doesn't contain any info on Girls Aloud, so it looks as if the api.mtvnservices.com site is not returning the expected data. Maybe it would be possible to improve the scraping by renaming the music videos, though offhand I can't think how you'd do this.

What are the contents of the nfo file?
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.

Is that aimed at me or steadyeddie?

In my case there are no .nfo files anywhere that I can see. Should there be?

Just out of curiousity I experimented a bit further, and:

http://api.mtvnservices.com/1/video/sear...%20fifteen

does find the video while:

http://api.mtvnservices.com/1/video/sear...%20biology

finds nothing, so it looks like a problem at the api.mtvnservices.com end.

In the folder there are 3 files, a system information file (which I assume is the nfo file), a sfv file and a srr file.
The system information file is called aaf-take.that.the.circus.live.2009.hdtv

Well sho asked you what was in the .nfo file and is still waiting for a reply. I'd guess he wants you to open the file in Notepad and post the contents here.

From my quick test I found the MTV site to be pretty rubbish at identifying music videos. You can add videos to the library manually by writing a .nfo file, though I've never done it so I don't know the details. A quick search of wiki.xbmc.org might help.

Hmm, that's not an nfo file. Look at http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Imp..._nfo_Files to see what the nfo file format looks like.

I get the impression that you're not sure if the file does end in .nfo or not (possibly because you have Explorer hiding the file suffices). As I understand it (and it's not something I've used personally) if an nfo file exists that stops XBMC from doing any scraping because it assumes to want the nfo to override any scraping. If there is an nfo file that isn't in the format XBMC expects then it will cause problems.
