Hi all,
I'm running Opensuse 11.3 with an nVidia g240 running driver 256.53 on a 40" Sony TV that is 1920x1080. I recently redid my computer, adding a RAID into the mix and now I'm noticing what can best be described as digital artifacts during wide, panning shots and when fast paced things are happening in a particular movie (for example, a car chase or two people fighting, as opposed to a nice conversation).
I've actually interestingly noticed it less when watching full 1080p movies and more when watching 720p or even lesser DVD-quality movies, especially ones formatted 4:3 not 16:9 (leaving black bars at the sides of my screen). When it happens, xbmc doesn't register any more dropped frames than and it doesn't appear that my cpu's are being used more than normal either (they both usually run around 9% when watching something, more if its 1080p).
I have two hunches: one is that it has to do with the FPS rate (my TV is 60 hertz). The FPS rate can fluctuate between 23 and 30. 30 seems high to me, and I had read somewhere to set it to 24.98 for it to work properly (but I can't find that process anymore). My other hunch is a codec issue, but as far as I can tell with xbmc installed, playing .mkv and .avi files shouldn't be a problem...
Any ideas?
