Are you going over HDMI?

I had the same problem, but switched to TOSLINK (Optical) and it sovled the problem... (at least for DTS, AC3, ETC).

Try going over a Toslink cable directly from the ATV2 -> Receiver (or TV).

But you just said:

The sound is coming out through HDMI...

If it's coming out through HDMI then it's not going over Optical, it's going over HDMI.

Ye I get that.
And thats the issue!

I have set the optical cable to my receiver, and in the settings changed it to Optical...

But the sound is still coming from HDMI through my TV.
Making a right royal racket!

Did you change the setting in your ATV for Optical Output. It starts out (at least for me) on Analog. I have to change it in the ATV to Optical.

Ok so if i turn my TV sound all the way down it stops.
But surely it should not be coming out both receivers?

When I turn down the TV and turn up my receiver I can hear sound.
Also still slightly stuttery.

Oh I see what you are saying now... (I think)

Optical Cable is going to Receiver
HDMI Cable is going to TV

That's how mine is, I just have my TV Speakers disabled. That might not be an option for you, but whenever you are watching it from the ATV2 you might just have to mute it or disable the speakers.

Ye thats exactly it.
Sound still comes out of both sources.

Surely that would be taking up much needed bandwidth or processing power?

Another thing, how can I turn off subtitles?
As you can tell im new to XBMC Big Grin

Even though I have subs turned off, when I'm watching MKV files I have to manually turn it off while the vid is playing. So.. When the vid is playing. On the ATV2 remote, Hold down the middle button. (One inside the arrows) till a menu pops up on top. Go over to Sound and Subtitles, Then unclick subtitles.

This is on my PC not on my ATV2 but the settings are the same.
Does it say this in your Settings>System>Audio Output

Is that set to Optical? That is my only thought of what could be doing this if its not set to optical.

Then I don't know what is causing the sound. My receiver only does Passthrough of HDMI, so I have to use Optical. But my TV volume is all the way down since I don't watch anything that doesn't go through the Receiver first.

Does anyone else know how to make the sound only come out through Optical instead of both Optical and HDMI?
