Ok so gathering my 16 digit ECID code wasn't all that difficult, is that all I need to do incase of problems in the future? Also is this number unique to the firmware? Will I need to do this each time I upgrade?

About saving your ATV2 shsh blobs. These threads refer to two separate guides. The confusion I have is that one mentions needing to put your device into recover (dfu). The other doesn't mention this at all.

http://www.ihackintosh.com/2010/10/how-t...v-2g-ecid/

http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=9189

I want to avoid putting ATV2 into DFU mode, well because how would I get it out of DFU without restoring fw which is undesirable. ?

Which one of the above guides is absolutely accurate for ATV2??

EDIT: see this post that I just made, it may be helpful to some: http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=730...stcount=15

Thx

No need for DFU mode. I just used Tiny Umbrella earlier today. The current version will extract the ECID and all other relevant info without DFU.

If TinyUmbrella does not recognize automatically your ATV2 just plug the power in the ATV. Worked for me
