I'm not sure if this would make more sense to do through the different back-ends or in XBMC, but it would be really nice to be able to include Live Internet Streams, such as this:

in the XBMC PVR as additional channels.

I use live internet streams via the vdr-plugin iptv. I already use the vdr backend for ATSC and also the pvrinput for input via my cable boxes. Adding iptv to it was not that hard, but getting the scripts right is.
Essentially, once it's working in VDR; it just works for xbmc/vnsi.. |

the PVR framework could be used for this if someone writes an addon that adds those streams as channels. then you wouldn't have to use a backend.
