I'm currently streaming my files from my Mac Pro, I have 2 1TB drives which are mirrored that I keep all my movie and music on.

Obviously this means leaving my Mac Pro on all the time, which probably isn't the cheapest option, although it's often on anyway as I'm 'acquiring' my media.

I've just purchased the iomega iConnect, it allows me to connect up to 4 USB hard drives and share them on my network.

I looked at various options first, I was going to use an old MacBook ( with lid closed ) as a media server but it seemed a bit overkill just for sharing files.

I then looked at various NAS drives, my local PC World are selling WD 1TB NAS drives for £100, but then they are basically limited to that storage capacity unless taken apart and larger drives fitted.

Other NAS servers such as Drobo, although very good, cost around £300 for a model with 4 bays, so I decided to go for the iconnect which costs £63, a 2TB usb HDD can be purchased for £78, so for £375 I can create an 8TB NAS server.

I'm currently just using a portable 250gb USB HDD with my connect, but when I can afford/need extra capacity I can just go and purchase additional USB drives.

I did read some poor reviews of the iconnect, however I'm quite happy with mine, although I've only had it a couple of days!

Thanks for the info guys. The guide is for a friend as I'm a windows man.

Will have a good look at the links and see if I can set it up for him.

Thanks again.
