starting to build my htpc- advice please
#1
Hi all,
I have searched the forums, but to find specific threads on certain things is a bit of a needle in a haystack scenario.
I have sourced my parts for my first build, I was wondering if anyone could take a look at my list and confirm if it will do the job.
I will be running either XP SP3 or Vista Ultimate, havn't decided so any advice on this would help.

Case

Motherboard

Graphics card

Should I swap the PSU on this case?
Going to try and source a 30gig ssd for the operating system and an external Seagate drive 1TB for the media etc.
I have also decided on a harmony remote, can get them secondhand on Ebay for around £30, any ideas please on the best model to get?
Many thanks for any help

You should take a look at the Hardware for HTPC Discussion Forum specifically poofyhairguy and eskro's recommendation threads.

Hope that helps!

You'll need to get an IR receiver to connect to your PC. I strongly recommend you get an eHome/RC6 receiver as used with the official Microsoft remote, as the Harmony handset will support this.

I have heard rumours that Harmonys tend to have a slight lag with most receivers apart from the HP receiver (which is an eHome/RC6 receiver), but I dn't have a Harmony so I can't vouch for this.

Thanks Guys, will check out the threads.
I have read about lag with the Harmony, but correct me if I'm wrong, thats using Eventghost, but you can set up the remote without that by choosing MCE keyboard in the initial setup instead of remote.
