Below link is for a solution from Amet (prevent iOS update) which was posted this past February. Note that I already had the mesu.apple.com server resolved to 127.0.0.1, yet still received update prompts. Below appears to have solved the issue.

Yup apple is on the move. Had the same problem. Not sure if it was the extra line in hosts or saying I would upgrade later

You're welcome guys Smile

BTW, According to the thread linked above from Eric_S, the hosts file should end out something like this instead:

(Extra lines provided by amet)

Code:
##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1       localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1             localhost
fe80::1%lo0     localhost
127.0.0.1 appldnld.apple.com
127.0.0.1 mesu.apple.com
127.0.0.1 appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net[PRESS ENTER HERE]

Hope this works Smile

I've had no problems with mesu.apple.com rerouting to localhost, but you can never guess Wink

BTW, remember to save your SHSH's using TinyUmbrella Smile

(Disconnect ATV2 from tv, etc, Plug to wall the device, wait for 20 sec -leave it plugged to wall- and plug the device to USB, Tinyumbrella recognizes the device, just Press Save SHSH button on top right side of window)

Cheers!

Hi all..

Tried to do this but got the following error message:

E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (2: No such file or directory)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), are you root?

What to do? Do i have to restore? And how do i restore without updating to the new Ios?

Thanks in advance for any help...

Not working...

Hmm, any ideas of how i restore my atv without upgrading to the new ios?
I think the installation of xmbc corrupted something, as i was able to install it through nito, but now i can't install anything there....

XBMC is running fine since two hours with updatebegone. My girl told me that it stopped working this morning every 3-4 minutes so i was glad to see a fix immedialty when i got home from work Wink

@jisel: Should be no problem when you saved your shsh blobs. Just start TinyUmbrella's TSS Server and restore with iTunes.
