Quick question... why do a lot of online 720p vids come in 1280x688 resolution?

Often they are BR sources which *are* 1920x1080 so cant understand why the difference. This gives black bars unless the 'allow error in ratio....' setting is used (which I am guessing negatively affects pic quality in some way).

Not an issue really, I was just wondering as I can't make any sense of it. Are some BluRays in this format (ie. not quite full screen?)

oh, and I am not talking about 2.35:1 content. These are much smaller bars at the top and bottom.

It maintains the exact ratio of the movie as you can see by the width which is exactly 1280

Bluray resolutions are always exact because they have black bars encoded into the video bluray rips the black bars are added by the player

Thanks for this reply... Very simply answers my question and lead me to look into why. Have since found out about 1.78:1 and 1.85:1 which I wasn't aware of before and explains everything.
