XBMC Install on New ATV2 / iOS 4.3 Auto-Upgrade

My ATV2 is scheduled to arrive today with the sole purpose of replacing my aged original Xbox with XBMC.

I'd rather do the untethered Greenp0ison jailbreak than the new tethered iOS 4.3 jailbreak from Seas0nPass (and I don't have a Mac anyway).

My question is when I plug the ATV2 in will it auto-upgrade to iOS 4.3 before I have a chance to jailbreak with Greenp0ison?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if it will auto-update before you have a chance to jailbreak, but you can downgrade it to 4.2.1. I accidentally upgraded mine and was out of luck until some wonderful poster helped me on this thread.

I have the IPSW file for 4.2.1 if you need it.

It will ask you to upgrade. Even if it didn't, you would have to configure the Internet connection first, so you could always skip this and jailbreak directly Tongue

No. If you did not save 4.2.1 shsh blobs, then your atv2 will never see 4.2.1 again. Ever.

Not entirely correct. I downgraded without having saved the 4.2.1 blobs - as I outlined in this thread: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=96513. Stigma then followed the same procedure.

Is Apple still signing 4.2.1? That might explain it...

This because apple hasn't stopped signing 4.2.1 as of last night

I got 2 apples yesterday amd got fresh signed 4.2.1 blobs late yesterday.

SAVE YOUR SHSH BLOBS!

When you get your new aTV immediately connect it to your PC and start tiny umbrella and backup the shsh. Then jailbreak it with greepois0n.
