XBMC remote eats .pls downloads with error

When I try to download a .pls file in android browser, I get an error "unable to send URL to xbmc".

When I check the defaults for XBMC remote, its greyed out. (no specified file associations). at least in settings-application

How can I get rid of this behaviour? I'm trying to use ORB and it delivers streams via .pls .
