[old] Unofficial semi-nightly build FAQ/info/issues (here for archival purposes)
amet Wrote:Copy XBMC.frappliance/app to application folder via ssh

Or that ^^ . If XBMC isn't running at the time.

If I have helped you in any way, please forgive me, it was entirely accidental.

Then run "./mkdeb-xbmc-atv2.sh release"

Then transfer the deb to the atv2 and install with dpkg -i

Thanks again for the help. Worked perfectly. I posted the .deb in case anyone wants to play. This is built from git clone May 26 @ 9:21 AM EST.

Usually find packaging it is a little safer....

not sure whats unsafe about copying XBMC.frapliance to ATV2 with Cyber duck, worst is that you forgot to killall AppleTV and you have to do it again. Rolleyes

packaging it makes it very nice :p also will automatically kill appletv and takes barely any time at all to do.. also lets you share if you really want to.

The sharing is a nice thought, but best not done in this thread. It convolutes the bug chasing having multiple versions out there. Best to drop Keith a pm and let him know how the version works for you and he can put one out.

Does the latest nightly support 4.3 and dts/DD?

Agreed, still didn't answer my question " how is copying XBMC.frappliance unsafe?" Smile

Besides, when you testing something and have to install it on atv2 100 times in one night, you quickly decide that making a deb is just waste of time Smile
Question
I hope it's ok to ask this here...

What is the difference between the two 'latest' builds?

latest_atv2.deb

and

latest_ios.deb

Which would be appropriate for the iPhone? Either?

latest_atv2.deb is for ATV2

latest_ios.deb is for iOS(iPhone/iPad)

Thanks Amet!

Also, there was a guy on here somewhere struggling with the installation because he got a "wget: command not found error".

If you are having that issue you need to install 'wget', and probably 'aptitude' too. Both are available on Cydia in the Telesphoreo Tengelo repo (http://apt.saurik.com/).

Also, I was reading about they Cydia autoinstall folder... apparently if you put a deb in the folder cydia will automatically install it on boot? Would that work for the xbmc semi-nightly?

only happens to people that dont read up the wiki http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Ins...MC_on_ATV2
My (mp3) music playback stopped at 1 sec and crashed XBMC, BUT this workaround is easy and working!

The PAPlayer (default audio player) seems to cause the crash, but the DVDplayer plays the mp3's like a sharm!
You can just choose "Play using..." on any MP3 and select DVDplayer, but to fix it permanent just edit or create the advancedsettings.xml in you userdata folder and add:

Existing advancedsettings.xml add:
<audio>
<defaultplayer>dvdplayer</defaultplayer>
</audio>

Creating an advancedsettings.xml add:
<advancedsettings>
<audio>

<defaultplayer>dvdplayer</defaultplayer>

</audio>
</advancedsettings>

Enjoy the music again...

I just wanted to say that with that build the so-called WEB-DL 720p tvshows are played nice and smoothNod
I wish in time the rest of my choppy HD stuff with DTS (most of them encoded by the internal release groups of hdbits) will be played smooth too.
