I've got an ATV1 with XBMC Dharma & Boxee on it, (I bought it with both already loaded).

In the last ~2 weeks, while playing video files, streaming or otherwise, my unit will lock up for between 10 and 60 seconds, then buffers the file again and continues playback. Sometimes this happens every 10 to 15 seconds, sometimes it takes 4 or 5 minutes between lock-ups. It seems to be worse on media from my home server rather than stuff I'm streaming.

I turned on the on-screen debugging. I noticed that the machine uses ~10% of the RAM, and never more than ~40% of the CPU. The last time it locked up, It looked like it was jittering on the amount of data in the RAM. It kept going back & forth between 25568 and 25551, (not exact numbers, but only the last 2 digits changed).

I have a log file to share, but I wouldn't know how to post it's 1117KB of content.

Suggestions?

Question

Apologies that it's not the complete 1117KB log, but Pastebin limits me to 500. I've trimmed it to show the end.

A friend of mine suggested a cause; I've got my DVD's cataloged using fake .flv files I created in Notepad. He thinks that XBMC is trying to read playback info from them & that's what's causing the problem.

My fix is to create a 5 second movie file & copy it to replace my fake .flv's. Unless someone has a better solution to documenting DVD's in XBMC.
