Hi there,
I have a 10 year old panasonic plasma (TH42PWD6). It's old, but it's reliable and it'll take anything I throw at it.
Up until now I've been using XBMC via my AppleTV through the component input, but I've got fed up with the juddering when watching 23.976 content.
I decided to install Crystalbuntu so that I could tweak the modelines in xorg.conf but I quickly discovered that you can't tweak the modelines on the component (TV) out, only through HDMI.
So - as my TV doesn't have an HDMI input, I bought an HDFury2 HDMI to VGA converter. This does its job and I can now set my xorg.conf to output 1920x1080 at 23.976 Hz with the following modeline:
Code:
ModeLine "1920x1080_23" 74.230 1920 2560 2604 2752 1080 1084 1089 1125 +hsync +vsync
In the main, it's really smooth with the odd jump every now and then (not sure why) - 1000x better than 50 or 60hz. However, at such a high resolution and at any frequency, I see really bad dithering - plasma rainbow effect I think it's called, which I don't see at all at 1280x720.
So what I'd really like to do is output 1280x720 at 23.976Hz. I think this would be perfect. I generated a modeline using a generator:
Code:
Modeline "1280x720_23" 29.67 1280 1390 1430 1650 720 725 730 750 +hsync +vsync
But although it's at the right resolution, I get pulsing on the display, I guess because the pixel clock is way too low (29.67). Thing is, I can't figure out how to increase the pixel clock without increasing the resolution.
I've studied all the modeline information, but don't really understand it.
Does anyone else have a 1280x720 @ 24/23.976 hz modeline they could share?
Many thanks,
Si
