I recently moved my drives from local to a media server running Windows 7 Ultimate. HTPC is running the most recent release of live.
When seeking when the drives were local, it ran like a champ. Over the lan, it is unusable. I have to wait minutes for it to catch up. Is this normal? it stutters along until it catches up. I wasn't expecting it to be instantaneous as if the drive was local, but I did not think it would be this bad.
Is there a way to optimize the way windows 7 shares folders?
PS - i have tried with both dvd rips and 1080p uncompressed mkvs.
PPS - this is over Gigabit ethernet
