Seas0nPass Releases Untethered JB, fixes issues in XBMC
#1
Seas0nPass released their untethered jailbreak today for the Apple TV 2 for firmware 4.3.1. Their release fixes issues in XBMC where SMB shares couldn't be browsed as well as Audio errors.

Can be downloaded here: http://seas0npass.com

After jailbreak you will need to manually install NitoTV using SSH.

I can confirm this works perfectly. Untethered, audio + SMB.

Is this the correct procedure for the above?

Code:
apt-get install wget
   wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16129573/com.nito.deb
   dpkg -i com.nito.deb
   apt-get update
   apt-get install com.nito.nitotv
   killall Lowtide

Thanks.

The only difference I think is the last line. They changed the name from Lowtide to AppleTV in 4.3.1.
so either change it to:

Code:
apt-get install wget
   wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16129573/com.nito.deb
   dpkg -i com.nito.deb
   apt-get update
   apt-get install com.nito.nitotv
   killall AppleTV
or just restart the AppleTV to get the frontend to restart.

Why do you need to install NitoTV?

You don't need to but it gives you a GUI which simplifies the install of XBMC and a few other utilities (updatebegone, Overflow, MainMenuWeather, Rowmote helper, Bluetooth, etc).

Of course, more software = more potential for conflict.

Take for example. BTStack. It conflicts with fastfwd remote button. They fixed it. Then they broke it again. Sad

I wonder if all the things people end up installing on their ATV2 is the reason why so many stutter problems and other ailments are reported on the forum. Just wondering...

Ya, when it comes to software less is definitely more... best not to install anything you don't absolutely need.

Also best to avoid wireless whenever possible, whether that's Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. I'd bet there's more stuttering issues on Wi-Fi setups than Ethernet ones.

Yup you can... and some folks are lucky to survive the copying and pasting of a single command without screwing something up so best for those types to stick to GUIs as soon as they can make it there.
