Which one is better to try red snow or seas0npass?

If you want iOS 4.2.1, Pwnagetool (version 4.2, best to avoid PT 4.3 since it has issues with iOS 4.3+, might have them with 4.2.1 too) is the best alternative if you can't get Greenpois0n to work. GP is tricky, especially in Windows, but if you can get it to work it should cause fewer problems.

If you want iOS 4.3, then Seas0npass is the way to go... but if you go to iOS 4.3 you'll need to run the nightly builds to watch HD content though.

On a Mac at least, Seas0npass should automatically open iTunes and select the ipsw file for you (no need to option-click). If it's not doing that something went wrong.

yeah, I know, but whatever I've tried to do, the ATV didn't want to start in DFU-Mode. The only way to get it there, was the one I'written above. And doing the whole stuff this way, everything works great.

I have iOS 4.3 - Why would I not be able to watch HD ? where do I run these nightly builds ?
Well, I have come to the conclusion that something so simple that would take 20 min to do, has taken me days is due to me Running Windows 7 64Bit. I see people of youtube with MACs flying through the whole process in 10 min. On MAC’s – itunes and whole systems works beautifully with Apple TV.
Win 7 and ATV just don’t jive together.
- Tried GreenP0ison didn’t work.
- Tried Seas0nPass – went through the motions etc, at first it gave me an error message at the end. Re-did a couple for time it went through the process – no erros, it said complete, However when I plugged ATV into TV, there waw no change in the menu, exactly the same as before. It’s like the hack was not there.
- Last resort, tried iREB RC4- to jailbreak it and then sn0wbreeze to hack it. It was nice and easy.

Hooked up ATV and see the NitoTV in the menu. Now I have to update it and do Install Software –XBMC.

- XBMC official build crashes on iOS 4.3 when watching HD content due to changes in the hardware acceleration API. It's been fixed in the nightlies.
- Nightly build thread is one of the sticky threads: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=97246
- search the forums for detailed instructions but basically you ssh to atv2, then "cd /tmp ; wget http://hadm.net/~keith/xbmc_atv2/latest_atv2.deb" and "dpkg -i latest_atv2.deb"
- I couldn't get Greenpois0n to work in Windows either.
- Seas0npass won't change your main screen so maybe you were successful, test by sshing to your atv2 (use Putty in Windows).
- Sn0wbreeze has issues, can't remember all them but maybe no audio or static noise. Seas0npass is the best bet for 4.3 at the moment.
- Good chance you'll have issues if you don't use Seas0npass. Try again and test with ssh (user: root, pass: alpine). You can install nitoTV at the command line if you want with the instructions here http://thetechjournal.com/electronics/ho...totv.xhtml (last command should be killall AppleTV I think)

exactly, that's it. But in some cases ATV won't start in DFU-Mode if the power-connector in't plugged in, like it happened by me. The method I've described worked for me perfectly. Entering DFU-Mode with power connected, unplugging it when iTunes is at the step of uploading the firmware to ATV.

Ignore the error at the end of the restore. it's jailbroken

Same happened to me, it would not enter DFU mode, then plugged in power cord and OK in-DFU-mode. I had to idea that you don't see anything after is jailbroken, I thought you see an additional menu etc.

OK, noted, thanks.

Will run Sees0nPass and try to SSH into it with PuTTY. I have to enter my WiFi info, record the and enter it in PuTTY. Is SSH done through the ETH-RJ45 port on ATV ?

Thanks for your input. Big Grin At least I know what to expect.

- In my experience, plugging the power cord into the atv2 causes issues with getting into DFU mode but some say they need to for it to work. I think Greenpois0n wanted it plugged in but Seas0npass didn't and Seas0npass took one try to get into DFU but GP took me 4-5 tries.

- You'll see different menu items when you jb w/ Greenpois0n (it's called Greenpois0n I think) but not with Seas0npass (not until you install nitoTV from the command line, not required but some like having it).

- Ya, you'll need the atv2's IP address, and ssh to it using putty. Ssh is done through whatever network connection your atv2 has (Wi-Fi or Ethernet). The atv2 will only have one IP address and that address will be assigned to Ethernet if plugged in otherwise it'll be assigned to your Wi-Fi connection (assuming one has been configured and is available).

Do you install XBMC first, then nitoTV second or vice versa? Does it matter?
