Infra-red using XBOX IR receiver

Question
Hi all,

I'm about to replace my original modded XBOX + XBMC with a Zotac Z-Box. I'm wondering whether I can reuse my XBOX IR receiver.

Does anyone use an original XBOX IR receiver along with a cable like this:

?

It looks like they can easily be used with lirc:

I'm just hoping that I can get a simple cable and avoid breaking out the soldering iron. Do you think it would work?

Yes, it will.

There's some talk about this in the XBMC wiki. I remember seeing it some time ago.

Cool. One is now on the way - I'll report back on the results.

I use the original Xbox receiver with my Windows install and EventGhost.

Works great with the original Xbox remote, or any universal remote programmed to control an RCA DVD player.

I've used it with my Yamaha Home Theater Receiver remote, and I'm using it now with a Harmony 510 remote.

did you configure your Harmony as an xbox1 remote or windows mce remote? what would be better?
I just got a harmony and am not sure about this. Logic suggests MCE would be better because it has movies/music buttons but I am not sure how well an MCE remote would cope with the xbox ir receiver.
