Remote Launcher - start XBMC/Kodi remotely from your Android device
(2012-07-11, 03:49)Radimus Wrote: Well, specifically I'd like to workaround the shortcut issues of the app opening, sending the command and closing.

Tasker can perform intents, so what I'd like to be able to do is create a Tasker scene that is in effect a "remote control" for Plex or whatever, where the commands are sent via intents (hopefully that suppresses the opening and closing of the remote launcher app)

So If you could make or show a basic scene that shows how 1 intent looks like in tasker, the creative people can carry forward with improving it Smile

I also noticed that the PC server app will popup configuration message if a different user account logs into the same system. So you might want to see if there is a way for it to look for a config file or something.

Unfortunately even if using Intents with Tasker, the app will still popup and then close... I'm afraid that is because of how I coded it to begin with. That's is definately something that should be changed but requires quite a bit of refactoring.

There is a very basic Tasker example here:
http://owtroid.com/remotelauncher/mediaw...cific_time
but I'll try to add more details and examples.

Yes, the configuration file is unique for each user. It probably wouldn't be very hard to let the user point out a different path for the config file, but possibly an even better solution would be to run the server as a service with global configuration. Then again, in that case you wouldn't be able to have different settings for different users,,,

I'm currently working on a new design of Remote Launcher and I'm wondering if anybody would be interested in trying it out and providing some feedback.

If you're interested, please send an e-mail to contact@owtroid.com

Thanks!

I just released version 0.3.0.

This is a major rewrite with a new look and some new features.

Also, the ads have been removed from the free version but it is instead limited to having a single server configured (users who had more servers already configured will still be able to use them though).

As usual, get it from http://remotelauncher.owtroid.com

0.3.2 released!

This fixes a crash bug and a minor issue with the "First run dialog".

awesome app!

Question - is it possible to make an icon that you can put on the tablet screen that will launch the program (in my case xbmc) immediately by clicking? Right now I have to click it, open it up, then click launch xbmc. If not, that's cool, I am being incredibly lazy but it would be nice to have.

Luckily for you I am also very lazy Smile

It is indeed possible to create launcher shortcuts on your home screen. Just long press your home screen, select Shortcuts in the popup menu and then find Remote Launcher in the list of available shortcuts. Then follow the instructions in the config dialog.

In Jelly Bean, and possibly ICS it seems that the shortcuts are available from the "add widgets" tab in the launcher so if you don't have the Shortcuts-popup as described above then you can find it in the widgets configuration.

Also note that you should use the Shortcut and not the remote launcher widgets that are also available. The configuration for the shortcut is much nicer and the widgets are only still there for legacy purposes.

Version 0.3.4 of the app is out!

This release fixes a crash bug when disconnecting from the server, a bug that made the launchers list show even if disconnected and a wake on lan issue.

Get it at http://remotelauncher.owtroid.com

Amazing work. Really helpful app.

One question, is it possible to setup a command to WakeUp my HTPC with this app? If so, how do I go about configuring it?

Yes, that is possible using the Wake On Lan feature. All you need to do is to enter the mac address of your PC's network interface in the server configuration in Remote Launcher. Save the settings and then you can long press the server entry in the server list and click Wake On Lan in the popup menu that appears. You can also configure a shortcut to put on your home screen that will send the Wake On Lan package without the need to first enter the app manually etc.

You can find details about how to find the mac address here: http://www.wikihow.com/Find-the-MAC-Addr...r-Computer

You also have to make sure that Wake On Lan is enabled in your BIOS on the PC.

Please note that this only works if you are connected to the same network as your PC, e.g. via wifi (and the pc connected via LAN). If you want to make it work when connected through 3G/LTE you will probably have to do some port forward trickery in your router to get it working (it is possible though).

Hope that helps and thanks a lot for the positive feedback!

Since my HTPC is connected to the wifi via USB adapter I don't think that will work.

Yeah that won't work Sad

There is something called Wake on Wireless LAN but it seems that there are quite few devices that actually support it. Some reasoning about that can be read here: http://revolutionwifi.blogspot.se/2010/1...s-lan.html

And to make things worse, in your case it would have to work in conjunction with wake on USB as well...

It's been a while but now a new version is out!

0.3.5 is purely a bugfix release and it fixes a few force close issues as well as a layout issue in Honeycomb prior to 3.2.
