Must say, your dedication and commit is something exemplary Angel, thanks for your hard work.

Hello Angelscry.

I use Windows XP and I have a problem with version 1.2.0 when using the true fullscreen XBMC:

A bit like in version 1.1.0 of Advanced Launcher, when I leave an application, XBMC is minimized in the taskbar, and also the emulator Kega Fusion displays an error at startup.
If I use fake fullscreen XBMC, no problem.

Note that I do not have those problems with the previous version 1.0.6 using the real full screen XBMC.

Except this:
The automatic shutdown of a music video or launch a game works well.
Games with Comma Going good.

I think your problem is directly linked to the Kega Fusion error at startup. What is exactly this error message? Eek

Kega Fusion was one of the emulators I have use to test the last version of Advanced Launcher under windows before publish it and all was working great on my Windows 7 system. There is no reason to not work on your system. I think you have something wrong into your configuration. Do you have read the Wiki page corresponding to Kega the Fusion configuration : http://www.gwenael.org/xbmc/index.php?title=Kega_Fusion#Windows ?

Also, if you could pastebin here your launchers.xml file, I will surely be able to help you more efficaciously. Nod

Hello Angelscry, sorry, I could access my PC containing XBMC until later in the day.
But I can already show you the windows error Kega Fusion have ever poster over version 1.1.0:
http://img823.imageshack.us/i/erreurekegafusion.jpg/
The argument I use to Kega Fusion:
-gen -fullscreen "%rom%"

Configuring Advanced Launcher is the default configuration.

I can not tell you for now, I
send you the configuration Launchers.xml soon as possible.
Can I ask what is your version of XBMC?
Mine is a version that I update regularly via the XBMC software update.

  • Remove Wait/state option for windows system: This option was the cause of the non 100% compatible windows command line support. So I have simply removed it. Users that will want now to pause XBMC will need to use an external script (.bat or .sh) to do it.

How do I pause XBMC using my .bat script in windows?

Jeff

Ok, it seems that Fusion and XBMC cannot run at the same time and that generate a DirecDraw error on your system. That is a side effect of the removing the wait state option from the last advanced launcher version. I think it could be solved by using a .bat script that will suspend XBMC when Fusion is running.

jeff93063 Wrote:How do I pause XBMC using my .bat script in windows?
Your question is, in some way, linked to john.doe problem, so this is an example how I personally use .bat script to pause XBMC(but it exists several methods to do it).

How Suspend XBMC using .bat script:
First, to control processes using .bat files, I strongly suggest you to install the PsTools package form Microscoft Tech website : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896649
The PsTools suite includes some command-line utilities for listing the processes running on local or remote computers, running processes remotely, rebooting computers, dumping event logs, etc... So, extract the Zip file archive, and copy the files from the obtained PsTools folder directly into your C:\Windows folder.

Create a fusion-launcher.bat file into the same directory as the Fusion.exe application like this one:
Code:
pssuspend XBMC.exe
cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Fusion364"
Fusion.exe %1
pssuspend -r XBMC.exe
Modify your Kega fusion launcher configuration to start the fusion-launcher.bat instead of the Fusion.exe application. Here is the corresponding part of the launchers.xml file :
Code:
<launcher>
    <name>Genesis (Fusion)</name>
    <application>C:\Program Files (x86)\Fusion364\fusion-launcher.bat</application>
    <args>"%rom%"</args>
    ...
That's all... Laugh

First of all, thanks for this great addon!

Just tried the new version and I ran into a problem.
I am trying to run MCE 7 from XBMC to get access to live TV and my recordings.
I am using a very simple batch file to kill the XBMC process, run ehome.exe (the MCE executable) and restart XBMC when MCE has been closed.

The batch on its own works without a problem.
However, when I call the batch from Advanced Launcher, I get an "Capplication:: create() failed - Check log file and that it is writeable" error.
I am NOT trying this over RDP and, as I said, the batch itself works without a problem if run manually. I have also tried to call a second batch instead of running XBMC directly from the first batch, same result. Running xbmc.exe without the "start" doesn't help, either.

Here's the extremely simple .bat:
Quote:taskkill /F /IM xbmc.exe
c:\windows\ehome\ehshell.exe
start c:\programme\xbmc\xbmc.exe
exit

Edit:
I just saw your post. I will try pssuspend, thanks!

I do not have any Mac OS X based system. So I cannot really provide a really efficiency support for this system. But it is not mean that it not work of Mac OS X based system. Advanced Launcher is mostly written to use XBMC internal functions, and so must not depend of the operating system used, except into the way to start the external applications. Linux and Mac OS X are both based on UNIX system , so the way to start application are really similar.

Do you have try to use Advanced Launcher on your Mac OS X system? It is working? Do you have any error message? If so, post the error message here and I will try to found a way to fix them (even if I do not have any Mac OS X based system to reproduce the error). Oo

Pssuspend only pause XBMC, then restore it after the launched application is closed. If you really need to close the XBMC application you can use the PsKill command included also into the PSTool package : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896683

I have spend more than 4 hours trying to fix this. That's a crazy problem...

The problem is that the started application (or .bat file) still linked to XBMC. So even when we close XBMC, the xbmc.log file still opened and linked to the active .bat file. When we restart XBMC, the application cannot open the xbmc.log file (because it is already opened) and generate the XBMC error "Check log file and that it is writeable". Oo

Using taskKill /f /t /im XBMC.exe command line allows to force to close all the depend files and child process of XBMC... but unfortunately it also close the .bat file before it had time the start the applicaton. Sad

There is also a way in python to "detach" a process (the .bat file) from the parent process (XBMC): make them independant. But... it is not working due to a bug of the python version included into XBMC. Confused

So... the actual version of Advanced Launcher not allows to close XBMC from external scripts.
I will try... again... to found another way to start applications under windows and hope that the command line support will still fully functional. Sorry... Sad

Hello, I do not know if it's still useful, but just in case, here is my configuration Launcher.xml:
http://pastebin.com/6TKNNAFw

There are 2 configurations for Sega Genesis (Megadrive).
Without a loader, and one with the loader which put XBMC pause here is the content:

pssuspend XBMC.exe
cd "C:\Emulators\Fusion"
Fusion.exe %1
pssuspend -r XBMC.exe

the loader works well since the process of descent with zero XBMC to launch the emulator. but it does not solve the problem of true full screen.

There ... I currently have to use the fake full screen mode.

Thank you and good luck.

Not sure if this fits in your situation but an RCB user had the exact same error message and solved it by adding "explorer" before the XBMC launch command. I guess this shifts the control of the process and with this the lock on the log.file to another process. See his post here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=715325&postcount=992

It is the same for most of all the launched applications. It you want to use Advanced Launcher you have to use "Fullscreen Windows" rather than "True Fullscreen". It is not a problem, it is how it works.
