I'm wondering if I can bug you guys for some help. I can get my SNES stuff to work fine but not my NES stuff.
When I load a NES game in nestopia outside of XBMC it works fine, but when I set it up in the launcher I just get a black screen when I try to play a game through XBMC. I have messed with all the settings, but still no love. I am also leaving the " argument" for Nestopia blank. I really don't know if I need anything there or not. I tried finding info on Nestopias site about arguments but came up empty handed.
I'm trying this on Windows 7 too.
If you guys know a NES emulator that works better with XBMC let me know.

What OS are you using?
Mednafen works great in Linux

I have not used the Windows version so no warranties on that.
The Wiki page that Angelscry made has some suggested arguments that work great.

Hey finally decided to try the latest and greatest code (which will save me a crapload of time now that I'm not hand entering everything) and there seems to be a bug or something for me, tested this on both an existing xbmc setup and just made a fresh clean install of xbmc v10 and your v.90 and getting the same error on both machines.

I can manually choose fanart/covers and the autoscraping works for emulators (auto populates fanart/covers) but for some reason I cannot seem to add them to stand alone programs, just getting errors.

Don't think it has to do with user permissions. If I create a subfolder .../snes/test I can go to .../snes and everything just work.
For .../snes/test I would have to add it manually to launchers.xml

I'm pretty sure you need to have at least "%rom%" for the argument, with the latest version of ALA.

Ya sorry I edited my initial post. I'm running Windows 7. I wasn't sure of using Linux because I wasn't sure if I could use a xbox 360 controller in Linux. Plus I suck at Linux stuff.

i just switched from th standart repo launcher to the advanced repo and cant run the emulators too. if i leave the argument blank, i dont get anything. if i put in %rom%, it just launches the emulator for snes game zdnes, anything else makes just xbmc flicker for a second. maybe this helps to solve the prob. (wind7 ult 64bit, dharma 10.0, aeon 2.6, adv launcher 0.9)

Pretty much the same here, zsnes works perfect but with mame
and fceu screen flickers for a second then nothing more.
Btw anyone have a suggestion for a good NES emu on linux other than fceu ?
Also any one got a gamepad working with zsnes and linux ?

Mednafen is working great (NES and GB/GBA) on Linux.
For the gamepad: A cheap Logitech PS1-like gamepad will do, however a Xbox 360 controller will work too - both tested.

Angelscry, yes I have them zipped in the format that mame reads them eg: tattass.zip ,sftm.zip.. etc and it shows all roms as "not found" status from mameworld, including covers, date..etc

Care to tell me how you made them work ?
I bought a logitech gamepad (usb). Used a couple of hours yesterday
trying different stuff. Seems that linux knows my gamepad is hooked
up ( by doing "jstest dev/input/js0" )
But again i find myself strugling with linux, how many hours i have used on the net, learning linux stuff since i went over to ubuntu and xbmc a year ago, i dont want to think about it
