therealjoeblow Wrote:I'm using this addon to index and launch eMagazines in .pdf format, in general it's working fine (ie, all of the .pdf files are found when scanning for new items, and SumatraPDF launches and loads the files just fine), BUT I'm having issues with thumbnails and fanart. Only the images for the 1st file are added, all of the others are not.

I have a directory structure like:

c:\library\magazines

In there I have

MagTitle.Year.Month.pdf
MagTitle.Year.Month_thumb.jpg
MagTitle.Year.Month_fanart.jpg

For testing purpose I have 4 .pdf's along with 4 thumbs and 4 fanart (12 files in total)

I've configured the script to find the thumbs and fanart in the same folder as the .pdf files (ie. c:\library\magazines) and like I said, only the first file gets the art, the rest are standard icons (keyboard in Transparency! skin)

I also tried to put \thumbs and \fanart subfolders for the images (and reconfigured the script to look there) and moved them there with no success.

I also tried removing the _thumb and _fanart from the image names when in those folders with no success.

Can someone point me in the right direction? I must be organizing my files fundamentally wrong.

Thanks
The REAL Joe
Please, could you pastebin you launchers.xml file and put the link here. So I will be able to see how is configured your PDF launcher and the related thumbs and fanart images.

Hummm... strange. All seems correct. You can try 2 things :
  1. If you use the "Clear Item List" option in the launcher menu, and do another scan (Add Items/Scan for New Items) do you obtain the same result? Because if you add the thumbs and fanart images into their respective directory after the item scan, those images will not been taken into account. You must clean your list and do another scan.
  2. Other solution is to manually select the Thumbs and Fanart Images using the "Edit Item" option of the item menu. If you do this, does it add correctly the Thumbs and Fanarts images?
If those 2 options are not working, there is possibly a bug. Actually (I'm at work) the only possible bug I see may be that Advanced Launcher was not able to get thumbs and fanart images from source names containing dots (Amateur.Photographer.October.05.2010). If you ranem your pdf files Amateur_Photographer_October_05_2010, clear your item list and perform a new scan, does it solve the problem?

If not, I will take a look by myself when I will be at home using your same directory structure and same filenames to see what is wrong.

Thank you for your feedback.

I did both of those several times before asking for help here, just to be sure.

1) cleaning the list and rescanning gives exactly the same result every time.

2) manually adding the thumbs and fanart works fine they show up after that, but if I clean the list and rescan, I'm back to only the first file in the list having the art. Manually adding would be a lot of work anyway, I'm hoping to catalog a few hundred magazines and ebooks.

3) renaming all of the files to replace the "." (periods) with "_" (underscores) instead yields the same results, after cleaning and rescanning only the first one has the art.

Here's the updated directory listing with the renamed files:

Ok... so, there is clearly a problem. I will take a look at it this week-end.

After one more test, I found the problem, it doesn't like the complex filenaming.

I renamed the first set of files to "abc"; the next set to "123", the next to "zxy" and the next to "987" so I have

abc.pdf
abc_thumb.jpg
abc_fanart.jpg
123.pdf
123_thumb.jpg
123_fanart.jpg
etc...

And now they all show up properly indexed with thumbs and fanart.

It would be great if you could get proper indexing with free-form filenaming (including punctuation) working because that's the only real simple way to organize a large collection of magazines and ebooks. Without it, this will be difficult to use. XBMC as a whole has no issues at all with the same kind of complex filenaming in movies, TV shows or music libraries.

Starting Internet Explorer in Kiosk-Mode does not work - woo73 - 2011-02-10

Hello,

i have a little problem.

I want to start the Internet Explorer in Kiosk Mode (Fullscreen).
Within the "Advanced Launcher" I set the parameter to -k for Kiosk-Mode.

What happens?:
The Internet Explorer opens with the URL "http://-k/".

What's the mistake?

Thanks a lot.

Mostly agree with all, except that using "." is not a normal filenaming at all. Points are used (on all the systems) to make the separation between the file name and the file extension.

Please pastebin your launchers.xml file here if you want quick help. It will help me to see if you have well configured the launcher. Seems that internet explorer have taken the -k argument for its default opening URL. You maybe can try to indicate a defualt opening page into the argument field like this :
Code:
"http://www.google.com" -k
It may works.... Huh

I tested with "," commas, it fails with that too. We could argue opinion on whether "." belongs, you will find hundreds of thousands of people the world over (if not millions) who regularly use "." in their filenames, and as far as at least windows based systems goes, here are the "official" rules:

Code:
Legal characters in NTFS include the following:

    [ ] . ; = ( ) and most other punctuation except those noted below

The period (.) cannot be the first or only character in the filename

Illegal Characters:
The following characters are not permitted in Windows file or directory names:

     / \ : * ? " < > |

Could we just agree that the script should work properly with *all* legal filenaming schemes, including all legal punctuation? Applications really shouldn't be starting new character-based filename constraints that aren't imposed by the OS. That will surely confuse users and lead to problems.

Hi Angelscry

I have put the xml into Pastebin. I don't know how Pastebin works and if I have done it in the correct way.

"http://www.google.com" -k as parameter doesn't work.

When executing iexplorer in Windows all parameters work fine.

Thanks

Angelscry Wrote:XBMC Special protocols are for XBMC related files or directories. http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Special_protocol
For example, under Windows you will not be able to access the Program Files directory using XBMC Special protocols. So why do you want to use the XBMC Special protocols to start emulators? Eek

I run XBMC from a USB drive in a portable mode. (why, that's another issue). On one PC USB flash drive is defined as the drive E:\, on the other - F:\. The emulator is prescribed path E:\XMBC\SNES98\Snes98.exe on another computer, respectively, will not start. That is the problem. Accordingly, I need to "Advanced Launcher" understand the way such special:\\home, and special:\\xbmc.

You have not the possibility to assign a specific driver lettre for your USB key on each of your computer like this: http://superuser.com/questions/16197/any-way-to-ensure-that-a-usb-key-always-has-the-same-drive-letter Huh
