I see the same behaviour when switching to an HD Channel, it does the play-pause-play-pause for a few secs then starts playing on NZ h264 broadcasts. As for the SD Channels, if I change the aspec ratio to make correct then the video goes slow and I loose a/v sync.

Rpi 512mB
RBEJ latest custom build
TVHeadend 3.2.34 on Ubuntu Dedicated File/TV Server

RE: Live TV doesn't work on Openelec [tvheadend server] - pootler - 2013-03-25

here goes

pi. 512
no o/clock
no usb boot

with 2.99.5, I get mostly blank screen . nothing consistent and repeatable.

with 2.99.4, and tvheadend with patch by jbree85, I get no channel first time but then can get any channel.
however if I stop for any reason I have a blank first channel, but all channels from the second attempt onwards.
this is consistent and repeatable.
I still have to correct the aspect ratio though.
I tried to update to rbej latest but chcksums didn,t match?
has anybody tried geexbox?. they have a pi release out?
sort of a sister to openelec:-)

I do unfortunately have a problem with TV, using the Mediaportal addon, going very badly out-of-sync if it's left running for a while, which has happened a couple of times in a week now. Skipping back once fixes it and then I can skip forward to the current position but it would obviously be better if it didn't do this.

Could it be possible that this problem also appears in RaspBMC with vdr-xvdr and vdr-vnsi?
Since several versions of raspbmc i get black screen when starting a channel-playback. It doesnt matter if sd or hd but most of the time i get a black screen. Also when switching between hd and sd-channels during the evening, i have to try to start some channels several times to get a picture.
I also tried openelec 2 month ago an the problem was the same.

because this problem is in xbmc player, not matter if it is xbian, rasbmc, openelec or other system, there is the same xbmc still :/

@PeaceMkr it is entirely possible. As mentioned above regardless of the build you're using it will affect all pi's since the problem is in the XBMC core code.

The reason I say its entirely possible though is that the most likely candidate (as far as the developers are concerned) for the cause of the problem is the way that the omxplayer code buffers and specifically how it interacts with the PVR caching state. This is a state that is only used by PVR addons that have an integral demuxer, as far as I'm aware there are only 2, TVH and VDR.

These are not the best news. I had some releases in november where it worked quite good but at the moment its floating between bad and very bad. I hope there will be a fix soon.
Dont want to change to another backend because im with vdr since its version 0.7 or so..
Main problem is that there is no workaround.. you just need to start several channels and switch around till the one you want to see is giving a picture.
The funny thing is, that when stopping the playback on a black screen, i get 1 short ghostpicture of the running program before the osd appears again... Undecided

But despite all problems, thanks for the good work. :-)

o.k,

I am trying to isolate the older builds that may work.

Starting with last september builds.( 11978 onwards)

unforunately, being a bit of a noobie at this, although the tvheadend client is suitably older, when i try to install the backend i get dependencies not met? I can only presume the backend is too 'new' for the old build?

if that makes any sense can anyone tell me where i can find a zip of the older tvheadend backends? - in simple terms, please i do not have a linux machine.

the newest tvheadend works fine. I've TVH as server installed on gentoo, as fronted i've ubuntu +xbmc on zotac and it works excellent, but on raspberry pi it fails. TVH is not the cause of the problem. IMHO xbmc, and axactly player is making problems.

So.. while we wait for the real fix for this annoying problem, what can we do? As I've understood it the proxy isn't a better solution then adding usleep() somewhere, is that correctly understood? If so can someone please help me with where and how to do that?

I did some tests with vnsi and also got some negatives every now and then. I did some changes which resulted in 100% success during my last test when I tried approximately 50 channel switches: 576i, 720p, and 1080i.

The first one fixes incorrect usage of the stalled flag in omx audio player. This triggered re-enabling of pvr caching state because player was thinking audio stream has stalled:
https://github.com/FernetMenta/xbmc/commit/8cad73f01fbd2ac23c3e5ad33b2e8a52681f1ff1

The second prevents cachstate switching from pvr to done at a time it's not desired. I have no idea why teletext was commented in omx player but this job was only half done:

Re: Live TV doesn't work on Openelec [tvheadend server] - adamsutton - 2013-03-29

I have the mods, using rbejs build, a go. No dice, same performance as before. I don't believe the mods do any better job of fixing the buffering than popcornmix's.

Though I've not really compared or check the logs at this stage. Will prob have to wait till next week ad I left my laptop charger at work :(

RE: Live TV doesn't work on Openelec [tvheadend server] - wizzard72 - 2013-03-29

I have tested the rbejs build. SD Channels are not working, still black screen. HD Channels are working. The lip-sync is off for a few second. The sad part is that channel switching is not working. So I have to stop watching and select a new channel from the channel menu.

For now there is progress :-) That's the best news.
