Old thread, but a couple of questions, please.

I have a generic MCE remote and it worked with XBMC right out of the box perfectly, so i suspect it's already using keystrokes, and showkey confirms it.

The only problem I have is that the Green Home button on the remote sends [alt + windows + Return] and that launches Windows Media Center, which it's supposed to.

So I disable Windows Media Center and alter the XBMC shortcut, but in the short cut tab for XBMX the green home button doesn't show a keystroke, all the other buttons on the remote do, except for the standby button. I was able to use a different button on the remote that I wasn't using, but I really want to use the green home button. How can I modify windows for that ONE button without running other programs?

Also, I know MCE receiver has IR blasters how to use the MCE remote to tell windows to send out IR signals so I can turn on other devices in my home theater, such as my Audio Receiver?

Thanks.

The green button causes Windows to run the application ehshell.exe and this starts Media Center. With a generic MCE remote the green button can't be reconfigured, so the workaround is to replace ehshell.exe with a dummy version that starts XBMX instead of Media Center. If you search this forum for ehshell.exe, or Google for it, you should fine the instructions easily.

petermarshall15 Wrote:You can change the appropriate keymap.xml so that the 'backspace' key makes context menus exit instead of the 'esc' key etc..... therefore one button on the remote "will be used be used to exit popup settings or info as the one that is used to go back a level in the views"
I have made this change myself. 'Esc' on my setup is then only used for returning to the Home screen like is was on the original xbox years ago.

This will mean that "the same key will be used be used to exit popup settings or info as the one that is used to go back a level in the views"

Hi, can someone please go into a bit more detailed explanation?
I opened the xml file but frankly im lost.
Would love to have it working too.

Newrmind i found out by trial and error XD

I did a bit of an update to the ehshell.exe replacement program. People were having some new issues with Dharma and the launcher not bringing it to the front. I also added an installer, which should make getting things set up a lot easier.

and then the 1st link

I was wondering whether it's possible to undo this? Now MCE won't open at all, XBMC opens up even in the MCE install directory.

Undo what? What have you done?

Is this question related to http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=97185 ?

Nonono, I downloaded a file to make the green button open XMBC and not WMC, but now WMC won't open up even in the C:/ehome folder, instead XMBC opens up instead of WMC. Confusing, I know :confused2:

Did you download the installer from the link in post #113, then you should have made a copy of the ehshell.exe file in another location, as the one in the installer replaced it. If you haven't done that, then I think, but I may be wrong, that you may have to re-install windows to retrieve the original ehshell.exe file.

Darn, I feel like an idiot. Is it possible to find someone with an untouched WMC and copy over their ehshell? (Either through a friend or online)?

Thanks so much, but unfortunately it didn't work. Maybe I should try uninstalling XMBC then reinstalling it and write back.

Thanks again though, you're the best Big Grin!
