RE: Audio Book mode - Mannshoch - 2015-04-14

I wish also an audiobook support. I would prefer a First sort into "Universe" because some of my favourite Audiobooks came in different Books, with different chapters. The Author had also did a Spin-off with an other Main character. And I download a Podcast about this Audiobook periodical over RSS.

Code:
e.g.
Universe: Rick future
  |_   Album: 1.01 - Rick Future
     |_ Track: 01 - Title
  |_   Album: Solomon Farr
     |_ Track: 01 - Title
  |_   Album: Podcasts
     |_ Track: RF_Podcast_26.mp3

Hi All,

Audiobook support appears to be a pretty popular request, so I have put something together for it Big Grin

It's still in it's early stages, and only supports m4b files at the moment. A beta version is available from here:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1v3j95wKopxc0h0c1lrQ2dYZmc/view?usp=sharing

There is a basic mode which will just allow you to play the m4b files and resume them from the last place you stopped.

The "magic" happens when you have ffmpeg installed on your system. If you get the latest version and have it extracted on your system somewhere. In the AudioBook addon settings you can point to it. Once you do this you will see any chapters in the book and things like Titles and Cover Art. (If you previously loaded books without ffmpeg, then you will need to clear the cache via the settings).

Obviously shipping the addon with ffmpreg embedded in the addon would not be allowed, but hopefully there are no issues with allowing a user to reference it afterwards. (As it will work both with or without ffmpeg)

I have only tested on Windows, but hopefully it works on all platforms. (With advanced options available for platforms where users can get ffmpeg)

This is still an early version and I hope to add much more over the next week or so, but wanted to put something out there for people to have a play with. I'm happy for people to list their "Feature Requests", but please don't complain if I decide I don't want to add them.

Thanks

Rob

It was suggested by @zag to create a thread for the release, so I have done this here:

http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=239859

Which also includes a link to the latest version - please direct all suggestions, issues, comments to that thread.

Thanks

Rob

P.S. I'm not watching this thread, so will not see anything posted on it, please post to the above thread if you wanted me to see it.

Umm the link doesn't work. I'm trying to find something from kodi that would maintain my audible library or at the very least stream my audiobooks.

To be fair, I did not like the way hes implementation going to work anyway.

As I have said before, All we really need now is just some "Kodi Audio Library" tweaks to exempt any audiobooks files IE: ".m4b" files or if the "ID3" genre field is filled as audiobook to be removed from the normal music library. And skinners to add/make views for them.

Oh and for Kodi to actually play audio book file formats like ".m4b" and so on.

On a side note. Converting audio books from the likes of amazon and audible file formats is a pain the rear end. I would buy so many more books if I did not have to buy them on CD first and then rip them to mp3.
