Was looking on avs forums some info, and I found this:
It has plenty of power for all 1080p and 3D movies (it will use less than 10% of it power during playback). Advantages over the Clarkdale is the built-in on-board HD AND 3D integrated graphics (yes you read that right --- you don't need a separate video card to watch either 1080p HD OR 3D --- they are built right in to the cpu and motherboard), slightly increased power, and slightly decreased power consumption.

So, they say we do not need an additional card with Sandy Bridge. What gives?

this has been discussed too many times now,,,

the i3 CPU has video on it,,,

using the correct motherboard,
you can forget about buying a video card
and simply use i3's onboard video....

but it has issues with 24p content...
stutter problems,,,

they should sticky this thread...

when making a XBMC build on one of those AMD E-350 processor boards, what is the preferred OS? can you still build a good running system on WinXP, or does it require going to Linux?
Reply
again, i dont suggest you mix E-350 + Linux,,,,
till they release stable drivers for Linux,
i strongly suggest you avoid going that route,,,

E-350 + windows is best!
you can use winXP,
but note that XBMC doesnt support HardWare Accelleration under XP,,,
You need windows7 for that....
Hence why the majority of us are all under win7...

well, you could try Openelec.. there's a version for AMD's. It's free, it's small, and will be easy and fast to try.

However, I also think you'll be better with Win 7; but even thinking that, I'd try Openelec first.

+1 for w7+e350 mobo
>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

I got all the parts for my HTPC (actually still waiting for the mobo):

Asus P8H61-I LGA1155/ Intel H61(B3)/ DDR3/ A&GbE/ Mini ITX Motherboard $80
Intel Core i3-2100 Processor 3.1GHz $125
ASUS EAH6570/DI/1GD3(LP) Radeon HD 6570 DDR3 1 GB $80
Kingston ValueRAM 4 GB Kit (2x2 GB Modules) 1333MHz PC3-1066 DDR3 $28
Apex MI-100 4BAY Desktop Blk/Silver 250W ATX12V Mitx $55
Scythe Slip Stream SY1225SL12SL $12
Total $380.

But the problem with tthe MI100 or MI008, is that te PSU is just above the CPU, which I do not like that much, since it makes me feel like it would make air flow worst.

I was thinking on getting this instead:

http://www.techenclave.com/pc-peripheral...31517.html

But I want to make sure that the PSU power would be enough. Just remember I would not use an optical player.

Thanks!

but thats exatly why you bought an extra 120mm Silent Fan!!

ask bluray, he'll show u a picture of whre to place it!

Well, that was kinda the question. You seem to mean that with that, it would be enough. So, I would probably keep the setup like that.

That say, that other case looks very cool.

What would be better, to pull air from the case, or to push air to the case?

intake cold air / push air to the case

I have the HTPC running just fine. Only problem, is that the side cooler is TO. Noisy.

I must admit that I bought another one, a Cooler Master Computer Case Cooling R4-L2R-20AC-GP, from AMAZON, as the SY1225SL12SL was not available at the time.

So, my question is, how much quieter would the SY1225SL12SL be?

Is there a quietest cooler even if more expensive?
Reply
R4-L2R-20AC-GP = noisy because of its max RPM
RPM: 2000 RPM
Air Flow: 69CFM (maximum RPM)
Noise Level: 19 dBA

check one of these 2 silent fans as recommended in my HTPC guide
[FAN: 120mm] SilenX IXP-74-09 800RPM 38CFM 9dBA ($14 + $0)
[FAN: 120mm] Scythe SY1225SL12L 800RPM 40.17CFM 10.70dBA ($14 + $0)
