Evening all,

After weeks of fiddling and fixing, I've finally got XBMC running on top of Ubuntu with an ATI card. It was hard work for a n00b, but I got there through the great community here on the forums, thanks!

I've done about 10 installs of XBMC during this fixing and fiddling, and they all went fine, and seemed ok. I've finally got hardware acceleration working, and now XBMC starts to play up. Well, it plays 1080p movies great on my little HTPC, however I can't now edit any of the system settings, with the exception of the screen resolution. Forgive me if I'm being stupid with this one, but I'm literally stumped on this one. No amount of searching the forums has brought any solutions

Any ideas/suggestions/general laughing, welcome.

I just ran into this same issue. This was after a hard lockup where fsck fixed a file under ~/.xbmc/userdata/Databases. But I moved that directory and started xbmc from scratch, and still all the settings are greyed out (except for skin settings mainly).

This is on Ubuntu natty, xbmc from team-xbmc ppa. I had just applied an apt upgrade to xbmc too, which was the git version from 2011-05-21 IIRC, so perhaps that's the issue.

Got this same problem on my pc running on Ubuntu 10.10.
Started having issues yesterday using the Aeon Nox skin (it would freeze when xbmc opened and started doing a media scan). I couldn't change the skin so I had to un-install, delete the skin folder, and re-install xbmc.
Started xbmc again and running confluence which doesnt freeze but 90% of my system settings are greyed out, cant change skins, audio settings, network settings, etc...

the settings being greyed out is a known and already been fixed issue on the pvr build of xbmc:

the freeze at startup in several skins s most likely due to this bug:

Thanks for the info. Now, I've been looking but can't seem to figure out how to enable the pvr manager. Little help?

System > Live TV > Enabled

...or something like that. :-)

Tried to Enable Live TV but got an error "NO PVR add-on could be enabled".
Went to the wiki http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW...a_XBMC-PVR) and tried to install via the method listed. Still getting the same error. (Note that i was getting an error when trying to install xbmc and xbmc-standalone so only installed xbmc).

Wiki commands:
sudo apt-get remove xbmc xbmc-bin xbmc-data xbmc-skin-confluence xbmc-standalone ## remove a previous XBMC installation
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lars-opdenkamp/xbmc-pvr ## add the PVR ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xbmc xbmc-standalone

Has anyone had any luck so far?
I've found all the PVR addons (which took me a while) and enabled them all. Still getting a "no pvr addon" error.
I also noticed whilst searching for the PVR addons, that there are no skins available in the addon section. Looks like they failed to install?

errr...maybe a silly question, but why did you install the pvr build?
i somehow get the feeling you don't need it....

Good question! I actually don't need it, but I have the same problem with the non-pvr build as well. I've tried installing via the team-xbmc ppa (http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Ins..._for_Linux) as well as using the ubuntu Software center. Same result.

I might try to do another uninstall and delete everything xbmc releated. What's the best way to uninstall and delete all xbmc files? I wan't to make sure nothing is left short of a pc format for a fresh install.

sudo apt-get purge xbmc xbmc-standalone

and delete the .xbmc folder in your home directory.

Finally got it sorted. Had to completely uninstall xbmc, delete all related folders and remove all ppa's. Did a new install and everything is sweet!
