I'm currently running 10.1 and would like to try the most recent nightly build.

I read on the XBMC page pointing to the nightlys that if you update to a nightly build that it will change the database and won't be backwards compatible.

Is this STILL true with 10.1 upgrading to the most recent nightly? (or is that old info regarding pre 10 releases?)

If someone could please confirm 100%, that if I upgrade to a nightly on one system only (using mysql) that it won't update the database.

Yes this is true. It will update the database and your 10.1 clients will not be able to use the upgraded database.

You could try the nightly builds using a local database i.e. not MySQL. You might even be able to export the MySQL database and import into a local database, though I'm not sure if the export/import works between MySQL and SQLLite.
