ANTEC ISK300-65's hidden PSU Spec

i know about the clearance...

the ISK110 model has more room there
since it has no top fans like on the ISK100..

just remove the 120mm SHURIKEN FAN....

So from your tests.... does it mean you can use a 65W power brick? or is it better to go 80W? Oh man I just ordered a 120W brick. Oh well it does not hurt.

I doubt it....as he said, it hit the spike at 65-70W during bootup....

120W should be perfect.....you don't want to operate it at 100% of the PSU max spec anyway.....

We ran the AMD A6 3500 APU both with and without a dedicated graphics card. Without one (using the internal IGP) the PC idles at only 38 Watts, which is respectable. When we place load on the CPU and we see the power draw rise the system now consumes roughly 85 Watts. This is with merely an SSD and 8GB memory installed. Your average PC will draw a little more power if you add optical drives, HDDs, soundcards etc.

When we put a dedicated graphics card (above chart) into the PC (GeForce GTX 580) our IDLE power consumption immediately increases towards 93 Watts. And once we stress the CPU cores of the APU we get a 139 Watt power draw.

I want to make it very clear that power consumption measurements will differ per PC and setup. Your attached components use power but your motherboard can also have additional ICs installed like audio controller, LUCID chips, network controllers, extra SATA controllers, extra USB controllers, and so on. These parts all consume power.

Did you happen to notice that their test setup used a 1200w PSU (check page 8 of the review)? I'd bet you $100 that the efficiency of that PSU at that low power is < 50%. So you can effectively cut their numbers in half if you 're going to use a DC power supply. I'm very interested to see what your kill-a-watt says once your system is up and running. I don't think you will see more than 60w peak.

I'm really interested to see how waver's build plays out.
I want to build a virtually identical HTPC but with:
ISK110
4GB Corsair (CMX4GX3M1A1600C9)
80GB 2.5 HDD (recycled from my PS3)
But with the problems of space and watts I'm not sure that'll be the right case for me now.

I can't find the ISK300-65 in Aus and it costs a mint off ebay. The ISK300-150 is readily available but it sounds like it isn't so good because of the internal PSU.

Can anyone recommend an alternative case to use if the ISK110 won't suit?
waver was it the fusion or generic build of openelec?

I think 65 would be cutting it depending on what you're going to use it for, I'm gonna install win7 and run prime, pretty sure that would go over 70.

Can you order a 3rd party brick to use with the ISK300-65 in Aus? That's what a lot of us is thinking to do.
Oh btw it's generic build....that what the op told me to use.

btw eskro why is the cpumark rating for the 3500/3600 dropped to 2118 and 4361 with links you've provided in the build page?

because the ratings aren't only about raw cpu power...
its also about value and stuff..
as more hardware comes into the market,
'old one' tends to drop rating....
