Thanks for the help

I'll try what you said with the debug log. I had originally done that with the single long (HD movie, no audio, SD movie, audio, HD show, audio) but I have no idea how it looks on the debug log. I'll try your suggestion. (likely will be earlier tomorrow)

I am not using any receiver, but it is checked in the audio options.

Have you tried unchecking them both ? They break audio on my setup.

I had a similar problem very recently. If in the future you get a DTS/AC3 capable sound system and want to use it, go into alsamixer and scroll along the outputs until you reach Auto Mute Mode and disable it. Don't ask me what key disables it, because I couldn't work it out and just hit random keys until it disabled.

Then you'll find in XBMC that a lot more passthrough/output devices are available and one combo will give you audio with AC3/DTS turned on.
