24p playback slooooooow
#1
Hi, I have been trying to get my media setup to play back 24p content, and im having issues.

I have Eden3 and Im using the following hardware:

ASRock Vision 3D Series PC
Yamaha A3010 AMP
Samsung PS64D80005 Plasma TV

All the hardware supports playback in 24p atleast on paper, but when I am running content at this speed it runs really slow for some reason. The TV does change to 1080p 24p the refresh rate is switched succesfully.

When I enable the onscreen display of XMBC running the CPU and GPU usage are next to nothing, which is usual when playing any movies back on this media pc. So I dont know what I am doing wrong.

The settings in XMBC are as follows:

Render method: DXVA
Allow hardware Acceleration (DXVA2) - Yes
Adjust display refresh rate to match video Yes
Sync Playback to display - Yes
A/V Sync method - Video Clock (Resample Audio)

I have tried other combinations and still the same issue. Could it be my graph card settings maybe?

I would think with the setup I have 24p playback should not be an issue. So I guess its something Im doing wrong?

Hey there, sorry to butt in! just curious, what version of nvidia driver do you use on your ASROCK 3D Vision , Im asking because i have this device also, and currently on latest drivers (
295.73) using the driver tweak http://forums.tweaktown.com/asrock/43272...ivers.html but trying to find what is the best driver to use.

Also i personally have not had any problems with 1080p.

Well i would for sure update your drivers. As i said the latest ones im using with that reg tweak above really are excellent, no issues to report.

When I enable the onscreen display of XBMC running the CPU and GPU usage are next to nothing, which is usual when playing any movies back on this media pc. So I dont know what I am doing wrong.

Try these settings:

Render method: DXVA
Allow hardware Acceleration (DXVA2) - Yes
Adjust display refresh rate to match video - Off
Sync Playback to display - Off

I was experiencing the same thing, turned these off and all plays well.

Yes but that defeats the purpose the video will not be at 24fps and 24hz. This ofcourse works for me also but I want it to run as it should do.

I will update my drivers and try again.

Have you tried, in the System/Video output settings to untick the "use a full window instead of fullscreen"? I think I had similar problems when that option was activated.

You might want to check this as well: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=106625
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first (usually it's enough to follow instructions in the second post).

How did you install the 295 drivers? I don't see anything in the url that will let me install anything newer than the 280 drivers. I've been trying for quite some time and can't get the 295.73 drivers installed. When I change the inf file I get errors on the install.

Thanks,

This is how I got it to work with Win7 x64.

1. Download the appropriately modified INF file from http://blog.komeil.com/2010/04/nvidia-dr...aptop.html

2. Download the drivers from NVIDIA and try to install it. All the files are extracted usually to C:\NVIDIA\...

3. Navigate into the extracted location and go into DisplayDriver folder and place the modified INF file there (you will need to backup the original nvwi.inf in that folder). (not the location mentioned in the link in Step 1.

4. Run setup.exe from 1 level higher up. It should install fine.

or

Download the latest drivers for the nVidia 425M. Run the install which will extract the files to C:\NVIDIA\[version]\Vista\International

Go to: c:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\[version]\Vista\International\Display.Driver

You will see a file called nvmm.inf - edit that file in notepad.

In the section [Manufacturer] there are two subsections:

[NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTx86.6.0] and [NVIDIA_SetA_Devices.NTx86.6.1]

In the first section, add the following:

%NVIDIA_DEV.0DF0.01% = Section006, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0DF0&SUBSYS_90771B0A

In the second section, add the following:

%NVIDIA_DEV.0DF0.01% = Section008, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0DF0&SUBSYS_90771B0A

Save the file and run the SETUP.EXE in the c:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\266.58\Vista\International folder. Should work now.

BTW - this if for 32-bit Windows 7. If you're using 64-bit the sections in the INF file will be NTamd64 instead of x86.

I think this might be the same issue that I'm experiencing http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/12726). Try and see if my solution also works for you (please let me know)

1) Install the latest XBMC version (RC2) -> http://mirrors.xbmc.org/releases/win...0-Eden_rc2.exe
2) Replace xbmc.exe in your xbmc map (usually under C:\Program Files (x86)\XBMC) with this build I compiled: http://speedy.sh/M7TPV/XBMC.rar

Please let me know if this works for you as well ! Thanks !

Also, if you just want a match between the movie framerate and your TV, just use this:

Adjust display refresh rate to match video - On
Sync Playback to display - Off

This will adjust your TV's refreshrate to the one in the movie. If this solves it, then my patch isn't needed.

Hi I have fixed the issue, I set the full screen option and updated the drivers. Now everything is working perfectly, I did have some lip sync issues but then I fixed those on the AMP. Its running perfectly now with 1080p at 24fps and cinema smooth on the plasma.

Thanks to all that gave advice.
