After a lot of searching and troubleshooting I've been unable to get WASAPI to work over HDMI on either of my systems

Both: Windows 7
Version: Frodo: Beta1 through RC1
Systems: Ion 1 and Ion 2 hooked up to televisions through receivers over HDMI.

I have ensured that both of the exclusive mode option are checked in the advanced settings tab.

I have tried updating drivers for both the video card and the HD Audio driver, I have also attempted going a few versions older.

In supported formats there are missing items, I have attempted an EDID override, but for the life of me I cannot get them to show up. The most confusing thing to me is that it does show up has having 8 channels, it seems that when EDID is the issue, most people have just 2 channels show up. It only displays DD, no DTS or HD formats though.

The error appears with this in the debug log

"22:59:23 T:5744 INFO: CAESinkWASAPI::InitializeExclusive: Format is Supported - will attempt to Initialize
22:59:23 T:5744 ERROR: CAESinkWASAPI::InitializeExclusive: Failed to initialize WASAPI in exclusive mode -2147024809 -(E_INVALIDARG)."

The full log can be found here: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=21574

If anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful.

Hi all. I think i have a Problem with the Audio engine not playin dts-hd gapless on certain Files... Have posted the Problem in an seperat thread. Maybe anyone here connected to an dts-hd capable avr can play my sample and Report back if the Audio is gapless or not ? For me it seems my avr is loosing the Audio Stream every second . For more Info pls visit my thread... Here is the sample.
Thx

Correction. The problem above occurs only in mode 1080/24. Maybe somehow to blame TV, but again - no problems with Eden.
p.s. I can of course use the direct sound, which doesn't have this problem, but wasapi gives a lower loading of weak single-core CPU in the old laptop (about 10%) Cool

@ above, The problem I have is, that i must sometimes restart certain files 2 or 3 times over before the sound turns up.
Have you tried to do that?

First member tested my sample and have the same issue. Maybe a dev can test too?

Well, i´ve DTS-HR movies playing flawlessly and DTS-MA movies which are showing the same behaviour as the sample.
I´ll post another sample in about 10 hours which is DTS-MA....
What i know for sure is, that "The Avengers" is DTS-HR at least in Germany, and this movie plays without any issues..

Who can solve this problem, to whom to write? RC2 was released, nothing has changed. Soon will come the official Frodo and this bug seems a long time to live up to xbmc 13 Confused

I would appreciate if you guys could add wav support for both dd and dts Vlc uses it and it outputs both formats fine for me i get that failed to intialize error in xbmc though

Is it not possible to run analog audio when HDMI is present? I've even attempted to disable hdmi audio to no avail.

Lots of unknowns on how this AE is suppose to work in the very few scenarios possible....

I'm having all kinds of issues...

Hi there,

I have a file with audio encoded in "surround" format, ie. left, right, center and 1 rear channel (BC). The following behavior occurs when trying to play this file:
  • The audio stream is AC3 and plays perfectly fine when using AC3 pass-through. The BC channel gets correctly mapped to BL and BR by the receiver.
  • When letting XBMC decode and send to the receiver as PCM using WASAPI, no sound will play at all. Video is a 4fps diashow.
  • In DirectSound mode, the file plays properly, but only the front channels will have audio, rear is silent (ie. apparently BC is completely ignored).
  • Any pre-AE build played this file fine using WASAPI, with proper channel mapping (iirc). Likely DirectSound would have as well, but I never tried that.
Since the XBMC log said I might have set my speakers incorrectly in Windows, I tried with all available settings, which are Stereo, Quadrophonic, 5.1 (2x) and 7.1 - same result everytime.

Debug log (using WASAPI output):

since updating to Frodo I have a strange problem with audio output:

Whenever I connect my laptop to my reciever, I need to disable the internal speakers to get audio output over HDMI - but only in xbmc. Every other program outputs over HDMI, only xbmc defaults to the internal speakers.

After i disable the internal speakers, xbmc outputs over HDMI and everything is great.

Default output for xbmc is set to HDMI, reciever capabilities are recognized okay - but still sound is output via the internal speakers.

Are there any settings wrong on my side? I scanned the contents of this thread but found nothing adressing this issue.

HDMI output is realized with NVIDIA 555M, drivers are uptodate.

Thanks for your help!

Sorry to bump this, but i guess it was overlooked - or do i need to provide additional information?

I'm currently on frodo alpha 5 and the problem still persists. Output is set to HDMI, WASAPI is enabled.

Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem with my new mac mini. XBMC 11 audio worked fine over hdmi but 12 only plays through internal speakers.
