I respectfully disagree that getting beta3 up and running is clear for those attempting to use NitoTV to get XBMC.
First of all harryzimm's instructions will work- but they duplicate some things. I've put the necessary steps in the code boxes below, and I've detailed what each line does for those struggling with this.
Code:
1. apt-get install com.nito.nitoTV (installs NitoTV)
2. Then install XBMC repo/app in XBMC
#apt-get update (unnecessary, NitoTV did this)
#mkdir -p /Applications/AppleTV.app/Appliances (unnecessary, NitoTV did this)
#apt-get install org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2 (unnecessary, NitoTV did this)
#mkdir -p /Applications/XBMC.frappliance (unnecessary, NitoTV did this)
Code:
3. wget http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2/deb/org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-3_iphoneos-arm.deb
4. dpkg -i org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-3_iphoneos-arm.deb (installs the package)
5. rm org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-3_iphoneos-arm.deb (deletes the file, this was mispelled as .debt in harry's post instead of .deb, as in the sticky and the real filename for those who didn't notice)
Also, you can go in NitoTV after this and do an update on your packages and try to install over the existing XBMC- it will simply say it's already up to date and change the status from Update to Installed. It will still list 11.0-0-b1 on the software page, but within the package info it will list 11.0-3.
I don't mess with my ATV too often so I'm not an expert but I wanted to know exactly what was going on with NitoTV and XBMC after I updated to 5.1.1.. I'm sure others are as well.
I'm guessing NitoTV will update only once XBMX 12.0 is released later this year, at which point you'll be able to update to 12 from within Nito.
Hope this clarifies and helps someone.
