Acer Revo 3610 + HDMI running Eden
#1
Hi,

I've got an Xbox 360 connected to a Sony 32EX403 via HDMI. The TV passes through the dolby digital audio to a sherwood amp.
I'm trying to do the same thing with the revo but can't work out what settings I need to use, the best success I've had has been to hear a hiss over the speakers when playing a film. I've setup the audio like this:

Edit I can get it to play stereo films out over HDMI but when I try AC3/DTS soundtracks it starts hissing

Audio Output : HDMI
Speaker Configuration : 5.1
Boost volume level on downmix : No
Dolby Digitla (AC3) capable receiver : Yes
DTS capable receiver : Yes
Audio output device : hdmi(ALSA)
Passthrough output device : hdmi(ALSA)

Running this

speaker-test -D plug:hdmi -c6

just makes the input lights flicker on the sherwood amp.

It'd be great to get this working, I want to get rid of the flakey SPDIF switching box... Thanks for the help.

This article helps, not quite solving it though, it DOES enable Dolby Digital over HDMI but not DTS,...so close

did you get everything sorted? I currently run Archlinux on my Revo 3610, sound can be a bear to setup. What do you have in your .asoundrc?

No, not managed to find a way to get it working properly. My .asoundrec is the default one that gets installed with eden.

Could it be that the TV doesn't support DTS passthrough only DD passthrough? Does that even make sense? My knowledge of these matters is minimal

Did you remember to unmute the sound with alsamixer?

The problem, was as expected. Passing DTS over HDMI through the TV was the problem. I've upgraded my amp and am now passing it through the amplifier after configuring the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file using the settings in the nerdoftheherd.com link above.DTS/DD now works correctly (well mostly, if you disregard that the mapping is wrong somewhere)

Thanks for all of the help
