Why? Are you a gamer?

>Alienware X51- do it all HTPC
>Simplify XBMC configurations
>HOW-TO Bitstreaming using XBMC
I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

Personally I have an Acer Easystore setup as my server where I house all of my media. Then in each room I have a ZBOX HD-11U with Openelec installed on each machine.

The ZBOX machines are running about $200 a piece (then you just need one stick of SO-DIM RAM ($20 bucks) and an SDHC card $20). Openelec is super easy and they have setup instructions on their site for the ZBOX HD-11.

The ZBOX is small, quiet, and doesn't draw much power (since it doesn't even have a HDD to spin up). It boots straight into XBMC though if that's a downside for you.

I run Sab, Sickbeard, etc. on the Acer Easystore which makes it sorta the hub of the house and then each ZBOX is like an XBMC set top box.
Thank you to everyone for this awesome software!

The i3 with HD2000/HD3000 iGPU should be able to playback blu-ray 1080P video/bitstreaming HD audio fine. In fact, it is powerful enough that you don’t need hardware acceleration to playback blu-ray fluently……

If this is just for playback and not gaming then you only really need the A75M and a A6-3500 CPU or for Intel a G620 with a H77 motherboard. No dedicated gpu required for either setup.

David
HTPC1: Intel Pentium G620, 4GB RAM, AMD HD6570, Samsung 830 SSD, Silverstone GD05 case.
HTPC2: AMD Athlon II X2 255, 4GB RAM, AMD HD5450, Western Digital HDD, Silverstone ML03 case.
HTPC3: AMD E350, 4GB RAM, AMD HD6310, OCZ Agility 3 SSD, Akasa Crypto case.
Media Server: i3-3220, 8gb RAM, WHS 2011, 8tb capacity, Fractal Design ARC Midi R2 case.

+ 1

I see that a G620 + a dedicated card (HD 6770 or beyond) if you are going to game is awesome.

Cool, think I will go after the A8, as the price difference is very low Smile

I think the A8 is a 95 watt CPU whereas the A6 is a 65 watt CPU whilst neither should reach its maximum power consumption I have heard that the A8 runs hot meaning the CPU cooler will be working harder and hence noisier.

Will the extra performance gained by getting the A8, help if want to use emulators? Smile

This is true.... I also have played with an A8 and it does run hotter and the stock cooler there is more noise.

I haven't tried any emulators on my A6-3500 but, the A8-3870K handles everything I've tried without even thinking about it. I highly doubt the A6 would have any trouble with them either. I'll be building a dedicated RV system soon with an A6 in it and plan on putting emulators on it for the kids to play games while we're driving.
HTPC 1 - AMD A8-3870K, ASRock A75M, Silverstone ML03B, Kingston HyperX 4GB DDR3 1866, Crucial M4 64GB SSD
HTPC 2 - HP Stream Mini, 6GB Ram
unRAID 6 Server - Intel Celeron G1610, 20TB Storage
