I have asked on the navi x forum and they pointed me in your direction,

Im using navi x with xbmc on my laptop plugged into my tv as a media viewer, i am controlling the laptop with a pc remote control, the only minor issue i am having is when i go to search the up/down/left/right buttons dont move the cursor to the letters and i have to use the mouse or type with the keys on the remote, this is really tricky as the keys on the remote are like an old mobile phone " you know 2 = abc, 3 = def " is there any way i can change the settings in navi x or xbmc so that i can select the search letters with the directional buttons like it does in the apple tv.

Under settings\system\Input devices\, try Remote sends keyboard presses. See if that does anything for you.
