XBMC uses 30% of my memory
#1
I have 4GB - 512 MB dedicated to AGU.
I'm running Win7 Professional 64bit with latest XBMC Eden release.
I'm using the Aeon MQ4 skin.

When I dont open XBMC the memory usage is ~40%
When I open XBMC memory usage jumps to ~70%

How can solve this?

Does it also use that much when using another skin?
Also what are your system specs.
My htpc also got 4 gb but I use a dedicated gpu.
And I never come above 50%.
Wanted to upgrade to 8 gb in first because memory is cheap.
But not needed

AMD A6 with dedicated GPU.
I tried to restore the default skin - stil ~75%.

I'm out of ideas.

Try it with another skin and see how that performs

I tried it with the default skin - after restart same memory usage.
Even if I exit XBMC the memory usage is still high.
I'm afraid this is a memory leak.

What version and skin are you using and what is your memory usage?

Sounds like you need to investigate some processes on your PC. Something's running in the background and hogging resources.

I'm using Win7 x64 pro, with xbmc alpha6/Aeon Nox, and never go above 40% of memory usage. I'm using 8gb of RAM, but it was the same with 4gb previously.

any tool for such purpose?
I checked in resource manager and noticed that XBMC only used 80K of memory.

XBMC is the primary suspect.
without system uses ~45%.

with XBMC loaded memory usage jumps to ~75%.

XBMC reported to have only 100K of memory - so where all of the spare goesHuh

My system only uses about 5% and 27 when running xbmc.

What can I do to debug this?
I have 18Mb on standby and 645MB free out of ~3.5 GB.

this freaks me out.

What else are you doing with this machine?? 45% for normal usage is WAY high.

Open up your task manager and check the processes tab to see who the resource hog is.

All seems ok.
The second I launch XBMC - memory jump to 75%.

I think there is no other way than reinstalling it.

What folders should I keep ? I have installed add-ons and used custom settings.

That's one way to troubleshoot. Do a clean xbmc install (after backing up your userdata), and then see what the memory usage is. Then install add-ons one-by-one and continue to check memory usage.

I still maintain that 45% is very high for a machine not involved in other activities (downloads, torrents, rips, encodes, whatever, etc.).

I have 512 MB dedicated for GPU.

just to backup userdata folder?
I will try to disable all add-ons and check.

Fix the 45% first when not running xbmc!
