Will this device play mkv 720p and 1080p on Android without any lag ? Can this device pass dd or dts via optical out to ampli receiver ?

Shouldn't you have asked these questions before buying one?
You're right. I did it. But Minix was not clear in that matter.
Fortunatly I managed to hold back my order.
I bought Aspire Revo 3700

1) huge progress! the coming firmware decoder is almost perfect now. all going to be released this month! stay tuned!
2) another huge progress! xbmc beta with our own hw decoder is also coming soon! already testing!!

When this will be done - only passthrough DD and DTS through optical out and we will have a perfect device Smile

Seriously - they get those two things happening and i'll part with my money. I've got a full desktop tower parked in the living room at the moment, almost exclusively running xbmc. I'd love to get rid of that and just have a nifty little box running android. I just need it to play HD content and have optical out for my old boy receiver. I take it the minix can already deal with a usb IR receiver and MCE remote?

Same here! This is by far the most attractive device on the market IMHO... It's hard even finding a good device with an optical, let alone all the other ports it has. If they nail the hardware acceleration (which I read is working on many more devices now, but I don't see this chipset listed http://liliputing.com/2013/01/experiment...vices.html ), then I'm in!

Wink
Ten days ago, first XBMC builds with hw acceleration started comming out. They are available here:

http://mirrors.xbmc.org/test-builds/android/

I've tried http://mirrors.xbmc.org/test-builds/andr...bi-v7a.apk on MK808 which has RK3066 CPU/Mali 400GPU and it works flawlessly. Minix Neo X5 is the same cpu/gpu as MK808 so it should work.

Am I the only one who finds this ARM thing boring? Don't get me wrong, ARM can be great, but in the last months it seems anytime a new board is found, people come here to tell how great, small and cheap it is and to ask if it is supported.

Did you try m2ts or 1080p mkv ?
They works or not?

Yes, m2ts h264 worked, but I need to check resolution and bitrate..

Edit: 24Mbps, 1080p, AVC (mts container) plays flawlessly via XBMC. I tried some 720p mkvs and all worked nice, didn't have any 1080p mkv to try.

Well somehow I totally missed this device until now Smile

It looks quite capable for the price.

I'm interested how smoothly this runs XBMC at the moment (as in GUI experience.. I appreciate HW accel is still under heavy dev.)

Has anyone tried a skin like Aeon.Nox on one of these boxes??

I had been on the verge of purchasing the ODroid-U2 which seems to have a much more power CPU - but when I factor in local shipping and import tax/vat it doubles the cost..

How good is the performance when playing 720p or 1080p from usb HDD

so from reading the thread, it seems like the liibstagefright version of xbmc allows for HD files to be played reliably using the MiniX Neo X5.

Is that right?

Just not enough activity in the minixforums to think forward about this at this point.

Sorry mods.... I hope you find this better

Has any of you tried with sample clips from known 1080P movies using Dolby Digital 5.1? These are so called x264 MKV movies

For example VLC call this codec "codek: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)"

How will Rk3066 deal with it?

Just ran across this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAxJ5rzAUIc

Decent review... looks promising.

fyi - they ship with 4.1.1 right now, just got one in at work and it came with Jellybean, so the vid above is a little dated.
