Problems with DTS-HD MA on XBMCbuntu Frodo Rc3
#1
Hello,

I can't pass sound in DTS-HD MA with Frodo XBMCbuntu RC3 on my HTPC.

I've tried everything in the settings ....

The hardware of my HTPC is compatible with DTS-HD MA. The motherboard has HDMI 1.4 and the processor is an Ivy Bridge.

My receiver is an Onkyo HT380 with DTS-HD MA.

Someone could tell me what can be?

Thanks!

you were not playing any file in those logs. All I can see is that your AVR reports HD audio capabilities.

It's my understanding that you have to apply patches to the kernel and patch alsa-lib.
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1251068

Now the kernel patches are supposed to be in 3.7, but I have been unable to verify that, if they are, you may just have to change alsa-lib
I would like to know how you updated the kernel. I'm unable to do that myself being a Linux newbie.

The first file you play Savages.2012.UNRATED.1080p.BluRay.x264-SPARKS/savages.2012.unrated.1080p.bluray.x264-sparks.mkv does not have DTS=HD in it:
Code:
Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: dts (DTS), 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), s16, 1536 kb/s (default)

The second stream Seeking.a.Friend.for.the.End.of.the.World.2012.1080p.Blu-ray.AVC.DTS-HD.MA.5.1.x264.dxva-FraMeSToR.mkv does seem to
Code:
Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: dts (DTS-HD MA), 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), s16, 1536 kb/s (default)

What actually happens when you play that file? ie what sound do you get (if any), what lights come on on your amplifier, etc

Ok, the first file I played wrong ...

When I play a file with DTS HD (like the second), nothing happens. No one sound from my AVR, in his display appears as if it was the sound stereo.

When I changed the output from HDMI in XBMC to Optical / Coaxial, he starts to play just DTS.

I use Intel Ivy Brige with HD 4000.

Any progress on this issue? I've got the same/a similar problem going on.
I have updated my kernel to the latest. I'm able to play DTS but not DTS-HD MA.
My motherboard does not have spdif so no need to change CTLINDEX in alsa-lib I suppose?

Try kernel 3.8.5. HD Audio worked for me once I installed that.

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mai....5-raring/

Althought then I had some black level issues, would be interested if you do also.

I managed to get it working.. The key was to install XBMCBuntu WITH the HDMI devices (amplifier and beamer) connected and on.
It took me three day's of reading the fora to find out this was of importaince. Previously i had installed using an old vga monitor since i find it a waste to power-up my beamer for that.
I don't know if something like this should be mentioned in a wiki, for most people it is of no importance.

BTW i'm on kernel 3.8.5 aswell, i'll report back with my findings on blacklevels, at the moment i'm happy with anything!

"latest" is not a version.
