Linux Ext4 options for media HDD
#1
Hello
I've bought HDD exclusively for media storage and would like to know which options of Ext4 would be best to use?
I've found this article (seems old), next idea is about
Code:
tune2fs -m 0 /dev/sdb1
which recovers 5% of HDD size.
Do you have any tips&tricks about how to tune ext4 filesystem for media storage?

Edite: very comprehensive article here: http://www.ahammer.ch/104

My tip is don't change it. It works fine as is. Only thing to do would be to disable file acces journaling for a SSD drive, but that's it.

Media is mostly big files and the only real performance gain would be the speed of the drive, which you can't change via the file system anyway.

This hdd will be used for recording in pvr too, often a few streams at once. I did some tuning and gained almost 90MB/s write speed which seems good enough for me.
I have long seek time, about 20ms, but it's probably because of connection via USB? Anyway it's not so important for media drive
