I'm using shared playlists to keep them synced between my 4 xbmc boxes, (two macs, one windows 7 and one atv1 (openelec) all running frodo and aeon nox 4

i added this to advanced settings

<pathsubstitution>

<substitute>
<from>special://profile/playlists/</from>

<to>smb://192.168.1.6/playlists/</to>

</substitute>

</pathsubstitution>

and it works fine with all machines having the same playlists, however (and this is why i am asking this here) when i go to add a custom menu and use the video playlist as an option none of my playlists show in the list.

not certain if this is a shortcoming of shared playlists or something specific to aeon so i thought i would ask here first.

i think you need to add your playlist to your favourites first (i think that file can also be path substituted). then favourites to main menu, at least thats what i did.

Path substitution is not supported in the playlist script.

...there should be a seperate "browse" button though.
