Android Pivos Xios, Sumvision Cyclone Nano+ or MyGica 510b. Which one?

Pivos Xios, Sumvision Cyclone Nano+, MyGica 510b. I've managed to get my hands on all 3, so which is the clone.

Answer, none of them.

These boxes are made by Geniatech, a Chinese company, who release it under their commercial arm as MyGica.
Sumvison have purchased these from Geniatech, re-branded and sold under their name.
Pivos have done exactly the same.

I have seen on other forums, even the Pivos official forum, stating that the Sumvision and the MyGica are clones of the Pivos, which simply isnt true. They are exactly the same box, from the same manufacturer, not a cheap clone. If this was the case, Pivos would be seeking legal action and you would not find them available from reputable retailers like ebuyer.
I know Pivos have locked down their Linux images, even the unofficial images built by users, to only work on their XIOS, and have a couple of XBMC devs working for them. But, in my opinion, it goes against the principles of what XBMC is, which is non profit, non commercial, open media software. Locking it forces people to Pivos, and in turn, becomes commercial. Are Pivos donating anything back to the community? If Pivos are to make money from xbmc, are they to pay every single contributor?
I know, you can say the Pivos devs are just protecting their work and product, but what about all the other developers who have worked on XBMC to get it the current stage, all the donors to the free project, all the testers and helpers on this forum and other forums and all the add-on creators. If Pivos want a protected media software that only works on their branded machines they should have built one from scratch.
All xbmc .exe should be available to all users of any product, not just tied down to a particular brand.

Now, I know many others may disagree with me, so take note, this is just my opinion.

My main point of this is don't be conned, the Sumvision and the MyGica are the same product, of the same standard of the Pivos, not some cheap clone as stated by many.

You are mistaking "have a couple of XBMC devs working for them" with them actually being a xbmc product. Our devs are more than welcome to find jobs to help pay the bills and if it happens to be work related to xbmc more power to them.
Aside from the fact that pivos as a company make a xbmc installer, employees some of our devs and contribute code back (like a good third party should) they have no official ties to the XBMC Foundation infact my pivos didn't even come with xbmc on it.

"Are Pivos donating anything back to the community?" You bet, big time. Without Pivos, Android would have never gotten over the XBMC dev hump. You do know that the dev work started over a year ago ? Without Pivos, you would not even be posting such a question about which is which because XBMC would not even be running on any of those boxes.

Did Pivos lock down their Linux binaries, sure. Oh wait, Pivos also pushed out the complete buildroot-linux source code building environment that they used to build said binaries. I'm amazed that you can complain about Pivos, yet in the very same breath talk about these others running the similar code which was only enabled by Pivos pushing out the code in the 1st place. Talk about wanting to kill the golden goose. This is OpenSource in action in the commercial world.

There's no con going on, Pivos actively supports XBMC development, does Sumvision ? How about MyGica, when was the last time you saw any commits to mainline from them ? You want Pivos to vanish it seems, remember that if does, then 99 percent of the XBMC development work that Pivos contributes to XBMC will also vanish and nether Sumvision nor MyGica, nor any other of the clone sellers will step up to fill the void.

Then where will you be when a new box (like the AMLogic MX) comes out that needs porting.

Touche.
OK, with this quote, you have actually shown my opinion (the socialist in me) to be flawed, and convinced me to your way of thinking.

But lets be clear though, the Sumvison and MyGica are not clones, they are the same boxes from the same manufacturer.

Actually not identically the same, the Pivos box is manufactured to Pivos supplied BOM (Bill of Materials), if it was identical, then you would not brick the others by force flashing. Other than that slight but important difference, Geniatech is the Manufacturer.

Also keep in mind that Pivos also supplies the source code to the Android kernel, kernel config and libamplayer, libamcodec, libamadec. Neither Sumvison nor MyGica will do that. So Pivos is much, much more open than any other AMLogic box vender.

There is a big difference between reselling and rebranding. With rebranding you make it yours, meaning you are fully retponible legally wise.

Chinese are good in copying. Manufacturer creates product A, which later on appears to be a succes. Manufacturer B grabs that, replaces some internal chips for cheaper versions, saving a couple of cents here and there and sells it a bit cheaper. Manufacturer C .......

Pivos most likely sells the most expensive one as the are responsible. To protect you to brick your non pivos box, they use there own hardware id and check that on install. That way it don't brick your sumvision if you can resists, not listening etc..... ( talking about being nice)

Anyway, conclusion; If it looks the exact same, it does not mean it is the exact same. the best example will be the usb-lan adapters from China.
