Getting an Asrock remote to work with xbmc in a way that doesn't suck?

Question
Has anyone figured out how to get these to work in a proper way? And by proper I don't mean http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Asrock_Remote which will have it working only as far as 1,5 meters away from the receiver.

I have been using the standard methode as shown here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=104541 which helped great with my last remote, but since using an Asrock mainboard with the built-in receiver it just feels sluggish as hell, I'm bearing with it for months now and have decided to do something about it. With Lirc installed it works fine BTW, if it wasn't for the sudden range limitation.

Alternatively can someone suggest a good 3rd party receiver + remote which works the way it should be with xbmc 12?

hehe - strangely enough I bought the asrock motherboard bundled with the remote - (not for the remote - you are right - it sucks - big time)
I did also purchase the motorola nyxboard and - wow - unbelievable piece of kit
ONLY ONE PROBLEM
It doesnt look like pulse eight will be getting any more of these - see here

so for now i'm enjoying the nyxboard - but will be lost when it finally dies on me
if you can find one - get one......

I got sick of a similar scenario with my remote control @ 1.5m distance, so I just ripped it out and used the remote app in Android and works great..

Cheers,

Buy an FLIRC IR receiver and you can configure it to work with ANY remote. I recently purchased one after unsuccessfully spending many hours trying to get the old Xbox DVD remote working with a new Frodo installation.

It was up and working in about 10 minutes and I'm very happy with it; my only criticism would be that the IR 'window' on the USB receiver doesn't appear to be that wide, so I often need to be accurate as to where I point the remote, rather than just pointing it in the general direction of my XBMC box. Now that I have Frodo (previously, I was running Camelot), I'm finding that I use the iOS remote app and that I don't even need a physical remote control that often. The official XBMC iOS app is excellent.
